Panasonic HydraClean - 4 blade vs 3 blade questions
« on: June 07, 2010, 01:05:10 PM »
Hi.  I am new to the forum and shaving my head bald but I have always wanted to and am going to stick with it now.  I work from home and probably won't shave every day but who knows.  I shave my face 2 or 3 times a week.  I would like to get an electronic razor.

I have narrowed it down to 3 choices panasonic es8243a ($120), es8109s ($105), and es8103s ($80).  The differences are either 3 or 4 blades and the hyrda clean system.   I would rather go with the $80 one but I would hate to spend $80 on something I am not going to be happy with.

Is the hyrdaclean system worth the money?  Will it keep the blade sharper longer? Does it save on cleaning time?  I guess I don't see the point in paying $25 more for it but I would appreciate the feedback.

What is the difference between 3 or 4 blades?  Is this a quality of cut thing or a time thing or what?  I don't really need the perfect shave but I want a good shave.  $40 is a 50% price jump.

Any feedback?

I can't speak for the shavers you mentioned but I have a Remington Flex 360 and a Braun Series 3. I like the Braun better it's a foil shaver vs a rotary. The 4 blade will shave a little faster but not by much. The cleaning systems some have are not worth the extra cost imho.

Thanks for the reply.  I am leaning towards the $80 one.

I have been using the HeadBlade.  It is very fast and I don't get much irritation although I don't think I could shave two days in a row with it because I do get a little irritation.  It also seems like the shave isn't very close.  Maybe I don't know what to expect.

With the HeadBlade I tend to have stubble growing back a few hours after I shave although I have nothing to compare it to.  I shaved my face with one of the HeadBlade blades and the face blade handle.  It certainly didn't get as close as my normal mach3.

I will probably try a Mach3 on my head next to compare.

You might want to try different blades with the HeadBlade. There's a thread about compatible blades in the Head shaving section.
