I used to like my hair long.  It became thin and hard to control in 2019 at the age of 35.  I knew U would go short and eventually bald from then on

My nephew wanted to shave his head since he was 12 years olld and saw my shaved head after a st, Bakdricks funrdraiser.  but his mother forbid it until once when he was in high school at age 14 she let him shave for a Saint baldric?s fundraiser.  he loved it. She made him grow it back, but by the time he was 16 she got tired of fighting with him and he has been a committed Baldy since sophmore year in high school and he?s in his mid 30s now And I?ve never seen a hair on his head

I was interested in shaving my head when I was a kid.  When I graduated high school in 1981, long hair was still in style and I wouldn?t have dared to shave back then.  The older I got, the less I cared about peer pressure.  I kept a buzz cut for years before shaving myself bald the first time about ten years ago.  I went back and forth for a few years before deciding to stay bald over five years ago.

@Semi-Sly , I didn't have the guts to try a flattop until the early 90's. I had been going shorter and shorter until I finally took the leap. The barber could tell I was nervous, and he left it on the long side, and told me if I liked it he would go shorter next time i went back a few weeks later and he gave me a traditional short flattop I got teased a little from the guys at work, but I enjoyed wearing it for several years.

I never thought about shaving until years later when I decided to give myself a buzzcut. As I said before, I didn't like the buzzcut and kept going shorter until I just razorsd my head. I wouldn't have kept it, but everyone liked it. Thirteen years later I'm still hooked on that smooth baldie haircut!

No, I was not interested in shaving my head, however unlike almost everyone else in the 70s I was fascinated with very short haircuts the longest my hair ever got even in the Beatles craze was just above the top tip of my ear, but once I got to high school I was already cutting my hair above the ear, which was Extremely short for 1970s when I joined the Navy in 1979. I kept my Haircut much shorter than we were required to do by regulation. I was one of the few guys wearing a flat top in 1979.

No that I think about it, when I was 18, I enlisted in the Army, and I was actually looking forward to getting the induction buzzcut. I had shoulder length hair at the time. I never got to do it though, as I ended up 4F, they regected me because I was allergic to cats!

I remember being fascinated by the band Right Said Fred because they shaved their heads. And one of their big hits was 'I'm too sexy for my hair'  ;D
The movie Major Payne was also a memorable one for me, not because of a particular interest in the military but because of the shaved heads.
Definitely something I thought about doing 'one day' when I was still a kid

I grew up in the 60's/70's so like the guys said, only Benner and Savalas wore shaved heads. I didn't want a bald head, but I remember I was intrigued by those guys. When I was under 10yo, alot of kids got a "heinie" haircut for summer break from school. It was clipper shave all over. That was usually done by dads the day after school was out.

Reactions to being Bald / Re: Mothers
« Last post by O2BSly on March 14, 2026, 01:32:23 PM »
My mother was shocked and horrified when I first buzzed my hair  ;D and I was already in my early 20s then.
That was years before I shaved bald for the first time and the reaction by then was more subdued but still not approving  ;D
Still gotta live your own life
