Favorite band or musician?
« on: April 21, 2008, 05:15:59 AM »
Hello fellow chrome domes(TM Warhawk)...just wondering who you would say is your favorite musical performer/band/singer...

My favorite band, as many already know, is Alkaline Trio. They are a 3 piece pop/punk rock band from Chicago. They have been around since '97 and they play great melodic punk rock that you can sing along to. Their sound has changed quite a bit since their inception. They started as a pretty gritty and raw band but their sound has broadened considerably. What is great about them too is they have 2 co-lead vocalists. Matt Skiba plays Guitar and Sings and fellow SBG Dan Andriano plays Bass and Sings.Drummer Derek Grant does background vocals. He is one of the most talented drummers in punk rock today. They are about to release their 8th studio album entitled Agony & Irony and it is due out July 1st 2008, I cannot wait. Their last release was 2005. Been a long time coming.

I don't think that I have a favorite band or musician, I personally listen to a little bit of everything. I listen to some old country, new country, rock, heavy metal, rap, dance, and even some clasical. Mostly though I'm stuck in the 80's.

I actually listen to just about anything.  Just depends on my mood.  But if I had to pick an overall favorite I would have to go with Bob Marley.  I grew up mainly on old school hip-hop and that will always be in my blood.  But since getting a little older I enjoy the sound of a "laid back" style of music a lot more.  Jack Johnson is another good musician.

I have a few different performers from each genre of music.
Jazz - The Rippingtons
Rock - Metallica
Country - Kenny Chesney

and, of course, Jimmy Buffett (guess he's his own category).  O0

I may have to check out this Jimmy Buffett guy. In all honesty, I have never heard one of his songs. I hear that Kenny Chesney is heavily influenced by him and I am a big K.Chesney fan.

I will now probably be heaped with scorn from Schro and the Bald ParrotPartier Bald Rob.LOL

No scorn, just shock. You mean, you've never heard the song Margaritaville:o

Not his best song (not by a long shot), but probably his most popular.

Dont get me wrong, of course I know of the legend of Jimmy Buffet, but NO I have never heard his Margaritaville song. I might have to pick up his greatest hits CD.

I'm also an equal opportunity listener.  Some of my favorites right now are Maroon 5, Matchbox 20 and Daughtry.

Yeah, that's a big shocker to most whenever I mention that.

I myself forgot to throw in Jimmy Buffett.  He's always a good listen.

For sure you should check him out JDog.  As Schro stated, he is in his own category.  If I had to describe him, not that he can compare with most, I would say throw in a little bit of reggae, a little dash of country, and a small amount of southern rock.  There's probably some more ingredients in that recipe that I'm not thinking of right now.  A more veteran listener of Buffett, such as Schro and Baldrob, could probably tell you better.

Don't bother getting Buffet's Greatest Hits.
He only had 'one' greatest hit with 'Margaritaville'.

Though I do have to admit, even though I can say I "like" Jimmey Buffett, I do have to be in the right mood to listen to him.  As we've said, he does have his own style of music.
