Are you a text junky?
« on: April 05, 2008, 10:32:09 PM »
What's up my Sly Bros?  I always thought texting was ridiculous until a few months ago.  I was one of those people that would say, "Why not just call the person instead of wasting time punching the letters and waiting for a response?"  But now I'm hooked on it.  I've become "a text junky."  Who else out there has become a text junky?  Give some specific reasons why you have if you want.

One of the main reasons I have is because my wife works in a school and the reception is horrible.  We can't ever talk to each other if she needs me for anything.  So we text to each other all the time all throughout the day.  Another reason is because my younger brother and I are real close and that's how he has always kept contact with me.  So I basically had to "catch the bug" or not talk to him.  I think the reason why I've become a fiend for texting and love it so much is because it has the basic concept of an e-mail.  You can say what you want, get info, be done, and not have to get involved in some long conversation.

lance:  at 1st i hated "texting" but i actually like it now.  texting is perfect if U don't feel like talking or if U R in a place that discourages cell phone conversations like a library or if U R at a doctor's waiting room.  however... i'm a very slow "texter".  i can type fast but when it comes 2 texting i'm kinda slow.

I even got one of those phones with the keyboard for texting, but I maybe text 2 - 3 times a month.

I very rarely send text messages.  A while ago I got one from a number I didn't recognize and I wrote back "Who are you?"  and a few minutes a response came back saying, "I'm your son Nick or do you not remember who I am?"  (spelled in textspeak of course).  No - it's not what you're thinking   >:D - it was some kid who trying to text his dad and keyed in the wrong phone number.  But I felt bad.

NEVER text...and don't like receiving them either.  Society is becoming too impersonal as it is.   If what the person has to say is important enough for me to know, then they should phone me or talk to me in person.

I like texting.  Probably send 3-4 per day.  I'd rather get a text message than a long drawn out phone call!

I'm 100% with Paul on this one. We're raising a generation with no interpersonal skills.

My recruits are always sending me text messages and it gets me mad! I text them back all cap saying CALL ME DONT TEXT!!! Then when they call I counsel them about stepping up and making the phone call instead of being lazy and texting!
