Commercials that drive you crazy
« on: December 03, 2007, 06:55:21 PM »
There are some advertisements that are so very annoying that they immediately send me looking for the remote so I make a quick escape.  The Mucinex ads are a great example, as are the toenail fungus ads -- both of which always seem to air at dinnertime.  There are also some really annoying cold remedy ads that run on the radio, involving a lot of noise-blowing and coughing sound effects.

Pharmaceutical ads with their graphic descriptions of severe side effects that sound worse than the condition they are trying to cure are also high on my list.  There's one now for a drug called Requip, which is used to treat Restless Leg Syndrome.  The possible side effects are:

Requip Tablets may cause you to fall asleep or feel very sleepy during normal activities such as driving; or to faint or feel dizzy, nauseated, or sweaty when you stand up. Tell your doctor if you experience these problems or if you drink alcohol or are taking other medicines that make you drowsy. Also tell your doctor if you experience new or increased gambling, sexual, or other intense urges while taking Requip. Side effects include nausea, drowsiness, vomiting, and dizziness. Most patients were not bothered enough to stop taking Requip.

I'm really curious to know how this medication causes an urge to gamble??   ??? ???

So what are the advertisements that drive you crazy?

Volvo was running an ad recently that had a retooled version of the children's song, "The Wheels On The Bus" (rewritten as "The Wheels On The Car").  My parents both complained constantly about that one because it was one of the first songs I learned when I went to kindergarten and I nearly drove them crazy singing it constantly.  It was over 30 years ago, you'd think they'd have gotten over it by now.

Medical commercials that tell you all of the side effects. There was one that warned of gassy oily discharge..  !*u%e...more than I wanted or ever needed to know. :D :D
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

I thought this was a thread about perscription meds and their side-affects!
I'd rather eat a Whopper anytime than take any of those spooky meds.  :Xo!

This is "Tis the season time". Take those scary meds off the air and replace them with commercials with the Pillsbury pop-in fresh doughboy,
liquor ads with beautiful babes, and other seasonal treats.  @c3

I get particularly ticked off at the assinine commercials for medications that tell you to "Tell your doctor of any medical conditions you may have such as liver disease, heart disease, etc."  If he or she is your freakin' doctor, shouldn't they know about your medical condition? Duh
