Shaved my head bald at last.
« on: December 26, 2013, 11:13:17 AM »
I have always wanted to shave my head. I'm in high-school and i finally got the permission to shave it off clean. I got it done by a barber. He did it with a straight razor. Unfortunately my scalp has turned a bit red and i have a few cuts here and there.

I desperately need to find a way to keep it baby smooth without ending up with a bleeding scalp. :'(

Being bald is really cool. My hand is always attracted to it like a magnet. It feels awesome in bed when i rest it against my pillow. I don't think i would mind being bald for the rest of my life !! And im only in day 1 LOL  ;D

Oh yeah. No one in my family, even my grand parents have hair loss. So i guess I'm bald by choice.

Sounds like you don't have to wait out the 30 day rule.

On shaving your head the first week or two, take it easy.  It's not used to being shaved.

Recommend a multi blade razor like Gillette fusion or Schick hydro 5. Head blade, etc.  All are easy on your head.

Go with the grain the first week. Then gradually move into against the grain for a smooth head.

Use a good shave gel or cream like head slick. Standard foam shave cream, no.

You'll be a pro before you know it.

Thank you for your valuable advice mrzed.

I have a gillete fusion already which is the one that i used to shave my face. And I have decent shaving gel.

Unfortunately i don't think i can get my hands on a head blade  :'(. I'm from India and you don't get them here. But I would love to get my hands on one.

Yes, it is very liberating Hingatao. But I will still have some problems dealing with some narrow minded people in my society. My family and a few close friends don't really give a damn, but you never know. The others don't know about it yet. And I'm pretty sure that I will find help in this forum if I run into some sort of trouble :)

Congratulations, sir!

I am just a year into shaving, and I still catch myself rubbing my dome absent mindedly.

The red will go away as your scalp toughens up and becomes more accustomed go the blade.

Welcome!

I still rub my head frequently. Love the feel.  And I'm almost 2 years in, less than a month to go.

I never want that feeling to get old.

I actually went to a dermatologist and she gave me a lotion which contains clindamycin. She said that i have small acne like things on my head. She also said that it would reduce the redness.

I shaved my head 1/2 an hour ago again after leaving a hot towel on my head. I think it kinda helped but i still managed to nick my sides a bit. But that clindamycin lotion thing works like magic. I put that on my red scalp, and after a few minutes, it went back to normal colour again O0 .

Okay guys, I took some pictures of myself just now. Tell me what you think. I shaved against the grain. Do you think i should shave with the grain for sometime ? Because your scalp feels smooth in all ways when you shave against. I guess my first self done head shave is a success.

I think it looks great.

With time your scalp will become tougher, your skill will improve, and the whole process will become more natural. You just have to be patient.

In the meantime, enjoy the new experience of no longer having to worry about hair.

Welcome, DSCSK! Glad to have you, it looks natural....When you finish shaving, another way to prevent razor bumps and redness is to rub an ice cube across your head after shaving. Closes the pores and feels good. Good luck and enjoy the forum!
