Do you use a blade bank?

While reading my second favourite forum (SBG is my favourite) about all things “shaving” and DE related I came across something that I had never thought about before. “How do you dispose of your used DE safety blades?”
It seems OK to toss it into the dust bin, but everyone has rummaged through their bin at some stage for that receipt you lost or the heating instructions on that instant pasta sauce box. There is a good chance you or someone else may slice a finger during this process.
While blade banks can be bought, I decided to make my own. I used an old pipe tobacco tin which I glued the lid closed and cut a neat coin size strip on the side. Then I sprayed it grey, let it dry and popped it into my medicine chest, next to my shaving artillery. The thought of preventing injury, not only to my family, but to the refuse managers was quite pleasing. I even like the little clink as the blunt blade drops into the blade bank.
Do you use a blade bank? If so, what do you use?

Back in the day the medicine cabinet in the bathroom used to have a slot for used blades.

A lot of old houses still have them Tom!
Waine, I use an old medicine or vitamin bottle. It has a screw off lid, so I open it, slip in the old blade and close it up again. When it's full I'll dispose of it safely!

Hmm, interesting Tom and BlueBriz. I like hearing about stuff from the "olden days". I have never seen that here before, but then again I never look in someone’s medicine chest when I am taking a leak at someone else’s house.

Ono of my friend -a girl (man i hope girlfriend
) is medicine nurse and since last year she is obsessed with Hep C (last year she stab her self on a needle that she had used on patient positive on HCV) and thank God she was negative but she did it again and this patient who had recently kidney transplant so he is checked right --and he was negative ,but she is stuck on that enchanted circle "what if" and in my mind if the girl i love has HCV i would be ok with that and her concern is excuse for some other issue in her subconscious mind-- i would use second hand razor if it is disinfected in alcohol

@wonderer: Glad that your friend is okay.
I definitely have a man-made blade bank where I toss my old DE blades. I use an old vitamin bottle and label it "blade dispenser". It works for me.

Great ideas guys. Safety is very important.
Hopefully I will have another picture out there soon. I have been having trouble getting it in my profile. High tech stuff has never been my strong point. I should have kept the old one and left well enough alone.

If you throw blades in the can/bin, wrap them in some tissue first.

I've been DE shaving for 5 years or so - gone through right around 250 DE blades in that time. I actually still have all of them, in an old tomato soup can, which I drained using a slit in the lid. Then, I rinsed it out as best I could, and now slip the used blades into it. The best part is once it's full (probably 3/4 right now), it is all recyclable.
See http://www.doubleedgerazor.net/faq-what-do-i-do-with-my-used-razor-blades-when-im-done-with-them/
great idea. I'm stealing it...raiding pantry for the proper can now!

@Tom: Believe it or not it fits about 25-30 DE blades. It doesn't require a lot of space and it is perfect for my shave den.
