Hi, my second shaving attempt failed. My first was with a one time shaver and I cut myself a few places with it. After that I decided to get a proper shaver. What i bought was Gillette Mach 3 Turbo, and today I tried shaving with it, and unless I wanted to get cut again but pressing hard and shaving the same places more than twice it wouldn't work (the hair seemed too strong for the shave). By looking at a youtube video the shaving seemed a lot easier, and his hair didn't resist the way mine did.
So what I am wondering is if its my shaver that isn't suited for the job, or if the cream I used was the problem. I got some shaving gel called Satin Care for sensitive skin, from Gillette.

Does it matter what way I shave the head if I use shaving gel?

Thanks in advance.

edit: I did shave my chin first and that went a lot more smoothly. There was only a little resistance. Although I did have to shave the same spots 2-3 times to remove it all on the chin

How long is your hair? I find it's really hard to shave even after 3 or 4 days of growth from nothing. The trick is to use a set of clippers that gets the hair as short as possible before trying to shave it off.

I used the trimmer til it couldn't take any more hair, so pretty short. I tried again and this time did the whole head. It felt like the shaver had to "rip" the hair out on many spots (it was worst on the forehead). It just wasn't possible to get all the hair away without tormenting my skin too much. It really didn't look so rough on the youtube video. I assume something I used wasn't proper. Anyway, tomorrow the hair should be completely rmoved, perhaps the day after, I'm not sure if it's such a good idea to give the head another go so soon after.
To my memory it wasn't even this rough a shave that time I used the one time shaver, but that time I cut myself several places, and this time it seems I was free of cuts.

I have another question.
Is there a way to not get a shiny head after it's shaved?

Welcome also.

As for the shiny aspect, you can get "matte" finish aftershave moisturizers for your scalp. I did, but ultimately I decided I want the shiniest possible: Hello world, take notice of me!

I can speak to the razor issue as I use a HeadBlade which I really like. You shouldn't need a lot of pressure - especially in the early days of shaving, I don't think, regardless of the razor.

There may be better creams/gels to use. I use HeadSlick which I really like, but there are many others that the guys around here will suggest.

Stick around and you'll get more responses.

For some reason I think you might be trying to shave dry. I know that when my dome starts to dry up the razor seems to pull more. Make sure you put your gel/cream onto a wet head and whenever you feel it drying up just wet it up a bit more. I hope that helps, it normally works for me.

Thank you all for the replies so far.
What I did was to put plenty of water on my head before putting on the shaving gel on.
What are the names of the good "matte" finish aftershave moisturizers?

Hi there Mekula.  I also struggled the first time after I buzzed it to as short as possible, then shaved it.  It felt like the new blade would not cut, everything felt rough and difficult. I had to make so many passes before the hair would come off. There was blood everywhere.  Afterwards I looked at my lilly white head and  wondered how I would ever be able to do this.

The good news is that from the second shave it gets better.  Persevere for 30 days and you will soon get the knack.  Try the Headblade, but do not push down.  Watch the Headblade demo video on the website, which I found very helpful.

As others have said it gets easier.  My advice is not to use much pressure - with the newer shaver cartridges one need not use much pressure at all.

Try shaving with the grain then come back against the grain. After your scalp adjusts to daily shaving you can start with against the grain. Since you're new to head shaving you might be wondering how you'll know when your scalp is adjusted to daily shaving. In my experience it's when I got fewer and fewer nicks and cuts from shaving. Everyone is different so there's not an exact time frame for it. I recommend trying Headblade, but stick to going with the grain until you get the hang of it. I gashed myself more than a few times in the beginning. When you cut yourself don't resume head shaving until your cut heals completely.

1st off go get you a mens shave gel [satin care is for women but ever works for you] also a mirror to see the back of your head when shaving and take your time you'll get the hang of it no rushing apply a disinfectant or just wash your dome clean and use an after shave or lotion to use on the dome and don't forget to do your shave prep so the hair is nice and soft for shaving just relax it will come naturally after a few tries ok.

Baldguyz preshave scrub, preshave oil and shaving gel. Your skin will get used to daily shaving quickly. Like Waine said, the nicks lessen and it all goes much more smoothly. In no time at all, you'll be a pro head shaver.

I agree with the advice on the prepping your head. I've only been shaving for 1 1/2 weeks & I've read lots of different threads here & tried several. What I've found that works really well for me is shaving in the shower & letting HOT water run over my head as long as I can stand it. Then I massage Headslick shave gel into my scalp. I then shower & let the gel continue to soften up the stubble. Then I shave against the grain then with the grain with a Headblade. It glides through it like butter...when I just lather up & then go right into shaving, it feels like its pulling out the hair! Hope this helps.

when I shave I prep 1st by taking a shower with my shower routine and wash up my dome so the hair is soft and my head is clean before stepping out the shower to the sink to shave so I can see what I am doing when shaving hope this help
