I bit the bullet this weekend and shaved my head down with a clipper with no guard on it.. so basically all the way down.

I have 2 little bumps near the back of my head though that are slightly red and irritated, sort of like pimples.  It seems like razor burn, but I've never gotten razor burn before in my life, so I'm just guessing.

Is it even possible to get razor burn with a clipper?  I didn't think it cut the hair short enough.  I think I kinda pressed hard and shaved violently, so i'll try to go slower and lighter next time, and shave w/ the grain maybe.

Any advance would be appreciated though, i'm new to this.  And how can i get rid of ingrown hairs on the back of my head?

Hey BigRon, I can't really help with the questions you posed.

However, the first few times I shaved I ended up with a few red spots but they cleared up within a week, and after several weeks my scalp had toughened so there are no issues now.

Others are likely to post something more appropriate for your questions, just wanted to say it does get better as a few days/weeks pass.

This is helpful, thank you.  you make a very good point- my scalp isn't used to any of this, so I guess I should expect some irritation and bumps, etc.

I'm doing my best to keep it moisturized and sanitized .

Welcome to the bald brotherhood BigRon. It is possible to get razor burn from clippers, you just have to be careful. Your doing fine by moisturizing and sanitizing. Any plans of going totally smooth?

it's normal to get that feeling, less or more. your skin has never felt that  before, so it will adapt

Yes I can't use shavers on my head or I breaks out like a spotty teenager with acne! Razor is the way forward, nice and slow. Cold rinse. Aftershave. Sorted!
