What was the British comedy that gave birth to the American Version called "Friends".
I dont think there was one. I think Friends was born in the USA. The only similar British comedies that spring to mind are 'Cold Feet' and 'Coupling', but I think they were probably inspired by Friends.
"Coupling", that's the one. OK, I thought it was the other way around. Funny show. It was a bit sexier than the American version.
Yeah I know. Generally speaking, shows here tend to be a little more 'open'

than American shows. We have a thing called 'watershed', and 'watershed' happens at 9pm every night. Once the clock strikes 9, just about anything goes.

As for Three's Company - it was only a US show because it had been Americanized
It was based on the UK's very own Man About The House, which was seriously successful here in the 70s, and spawned a few spin offs, including Robins Nest (Threes a Crowd) and George & Mildred (The Ropers)
Two's Company, not Three's Company. Completely different show:

X Man, I think you might be incorrect wrt this
Twos company was a terrible British comedy. Three's Company was the show based on Man About The House. That link you gave is to Twos Company (crap English comedy). Three's Company is the thing with John Ritter and the two girls I've never heard of

No, I meant to link to Two's Company (the English show).
Talking British - - -What about David Allen

Never heard of him

Do you mean Dave Allen, the so called comedian? If so, he was Irish.
Thank you Andy - -That I did not know
Yes, Andy - -that is the guy
