Last night I ran into someone I had not seen in a couple of months. They told me that they just about didn't recognize me or thought that it was my "younger brother".
That's what happens when all the gray hairs are gone....

I often found that hair made me look alot older, and now that I have shaved off the mop, people are actually guessing my age without the spare 5-10 years!

43, but I think the SLYness has taken at least 5 off of that.

I'm 28.
A few of my friends have told me that growing a goatee and shaving my head made me look more "mature", but not "older".
I think I can accept that.

I think it depends on the individual. Everyone, without exception, has told me that I look younger than I did with thinning hair and a full white beard. When I went sly, I chopped the beard down to a goatee, which may have something to do with the impression of youth. I am basically unwrinkled, since I have never smoked. Very few people, even those with whom I have worked for years, guess my age [64], which is an advantage. In general, a slick, shiny pate suggests youth and boldness, certainly more than a balding pate with a few desperate hairs attempting to like a full head of hair, or the middle-aged combover. Total baldness also suggests a connection with younger people's culture, since so many celebrities, professional athletes, and military men are headshavers nowadays. By the way, RazorX, judging from your before and after pics, I think you look younger sly; the fact that your goatee has not yet turned white helps. In time you might want to try coloring it to maintain the look. Professor Melon
Some people are negative no matter what you do. There's nothing wrong with caring about your diet and exercise. Keep at it , and ignore the nay-sayers!
John
As usual, Professor, you make some excellent points. I do think that if you have grey hair or very advanced MPB, shaving everything off can make you look younger. I've often heard the blanket statement that shaving one's head automatically makes one look 10 years younger. Of course it does not. A 22-year-old will not look 12, and a 35-year-old probably won't look 25 (unfortunately
It's much harder to evaluate oneself objectively than it is to evaulate others. I work with a few people who tend to give me negative feedback no matter what I do. They think I am obsessed with diet and exercise, and basically anything I try to do to improve myself gets a negative comment. It's difficult not to be affected by that. That's why I keep coming back here -- to get some reassurance!!!

A few months ago when I was strongly considering shaving my head; someone told me I'd look like I was born in 1968 instead of 1953 (my actual birth year). This guy recommended a full shave; head AND face . I guess I could request a little poll here. Would sly work better for me with a full face shave , or keep a goatee / beard? ( I would not be interested in the 'just for men' thing' ... so it would be a white (salt/pepper) goatee .

JohnMont, I think you'd have to experiment to see what works, but no doubt, you will look younger when you lose the rest of your hair.

JohnMont - You would probably look younger with a full face shave obviously, since the salt & pepper look only comes with age but I think it really suits you so I'd probably say keep the face hair & go for a full head shave but obviously it's entirely up to you.
oh & I'm 45 now btw (where did all that time go?) but I'm with you danyroo ... is fun to not always "act your age!"

At 55, I'm one of the old guys here. My hair is/was mostly gray, so shaving it does make me look younger.
