Does a shaved head tend to make a person look older or younger?  Or does it just make it more difficult to determine someone's age?  I think most people look younger completely shaved than with an MPB fringe, but other than that, I don't know.  I think it's hard to say if someone looks older or younger if you never saw them when they had hair.

The reason I ask is that I was told today that I look older than my age because I'm bald.  I don't really think I do -- the people who told me this are both older than me, BTW.  Just wondering what others have experienced in this regard.

A few people said it makes me look older, but than a couple other people said it makes me look younger....maybe it depends on the clothes and the light?

I think it can work differently for different people. david looks older. mchammerhead looks younger. i feel like it can make it harder to distinguish one's age. mpb compared to sly. sly looks younger. IMO.

on average i get 23 and i'm 26 only 3 years but still.

Personally I think hair makes a person look younger but there is nothing wrong with looking a little older.I like the mature look as it looks more manly.I will be 50 in a couple of weeks and I keep my thinning hair cut short so it looks less balding.I have a goatee too which has quite a few gray hairs so I use Just for Men beard color.All in all everybody still says I look a lot younger than 50 because I have a baby face.

I get carded much more often since shaving my head.  Actually, I used to never get carded in College unless they carded everyone. 

So, I would say that in my case it makes me look younger, but I agree with Paul that it depends on the person.

See i'm the exact opposite.    I've ordered a drink three different times at a restaurant after going sly.    Twice not carded, once carded.     With hair, I know I would have been carded every time.

When I went sly, I chopped the beard down to a goatee, which may have something to do with the impression of youth. I am basically unwrinkled, since I have never smoked. Very few people, even those with whom I have worked for years, guess my age [64], which is an advantage. In general, a slick, shiny pate suggests youth and boldness, certainly more than a balding pate with a few desperate hairs attempting to like a full head of hair, or the middle-aged combover. Total baldness also suggests a connection with younger people's culture, since so many celebrities, professional athletes, and military men are headshavers nowadays. By the way, RazorX, judging from your before and after pics, I think you look younger sly; the fact that your goatee has not yet turned white helps. In time you might want to try coloring it to maintain the look. Professor Melon

In my case, significantly younger. I am coming up on 41 and have received many compliments on the look.

Gotta agree with Paul and Tyler.  Depends on the person.  In my case if I had kept my full head of hair which was going quite grey, people thought me much older.  By going Sly people generally assume I am a minimum of 5 years younger.  Besides looking younge, I am finding out that being Sly makes me feel younger.

As usual, Professor, you make some excellent points. I do think that if you have grey hair or very advanced MPB, shaving everything off can make you look younger.  I've often heard the blanket statement that shaving one's head automatically makes one look 10 years younger.  Of course it does not.  A 22-year-old will not look 12, and a 35-year-old probably won't look 25 (unfortunately   It's much harder to evaluate oneself objectively than it is to evaulate others.  I work with a few people who tend to give me negative feedback no matter what I do.  They think I am obsessed with diet and exercise, and basically anything I try to do to improve myself gets a negative comment.  It's difficult not to be affected by that.  That's why I keep coming back here -- to get some reassurance!!!
