The Lord Stanley!
« on: June 03, 2008, 11:54:13 AM »
So I don't know if any of the rest of you have been following the chase for the ever coveted Stanley Cup, but after last nights game, there really is no other word for it than WOW!  Can you believe it, all Detroit needed to do was take the win last night and it was theirs, but with 35 seconds left in the 3rd Pittsburgh tied it up, and continued to hold out with outstanding goal tending by Fleury to go on and take the win at 9:57 of the 3rd overtime!  I mean I haven't seen anything so intense other than last years Vancouver win over Dallas at the end of the 4th overtime.  Wouldn't it be something though, to see another great comeback for the Pens to win it after being down 3-1 in the series?  I think the greatest comeback would be the '42 series where Toronto was down 3 games and came back to win it over Detroit.  Now wouldn't that be a bad feeling for the Wings, to have that happen to them all over again?

Fortin, I am the biggest hockey fan. Last night's game was classic playoff hockey. Unbelievable. I'd love to see this go 7 games.

Even though i'm  a Canuck fan first,i would love to see this series go to game 7 in Detroit. Last night's game was a delight! I played for a few years in junior/high school and remember it fondly. I follow the NHL usually but this year has been so crazy that after my Canucks lost out on a playoff bid i lost interest for a month or two.

Go Penguins!!!

So yeah, congrats to the Wings, although BaldRob, I must say, that the real true Hockeytown would have to be Montreal!  I mean, come on, what TRUE follower of the game doesn't know the rich history of that place, and all I've got to say is 2 words;  THE ROCKET!!!  Henri Richard...

You know how everyone always says 2 things you should never talk about, religion and politics?  Well, when dealing with a Canadian, never forget that it's our game!  and we'll argue it till we're blue in the face, even if we're wrong, cause we're Canadian, we're right EH!  O0

Well... if we are throwing out names... Gordie Howe!

But, since the Habs are one of the original six teams, I will root for them, unless they are playing the 2008 Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings...

I thought The Rocket's first name was Maurice.

Congrats to the Wings. A good game nonetheless even though the Penguins played catch up.That last minute was a fun one!
Henri Richard was Maurice Richards younger brother. He was nicknamed the "pocket rocket" due to his diminutive stature. Both were good players but Maurice was a higher scorer and a more physical player.
I grew up watching hockey from the mid 70's until now and have fond memories of the players such as Guy La Fleur and Marcel Dionne.I always admired those older players though like Howe (whom i had the pleasure of meeting twice! )Gump Worsley, Ted Lindsey,Terry Sawchuck and Stan Makita.Great players! Add in Jacques Plante,Beliveau,Hull and some others and the world was all good.
Ahh those good ol days.

I really liked to watch Gilbert Perreault. Always a delight.

Enough of that now.Get me started and i might not stop. Now i might dig out my hockey card collection!!
