Half empty or half full?
« on: November 02, 2007, 09:32:43 PM »
Ever notice how actors on TV are usually playing roles that are 5 - 10 years younger than their real age?  I was just watching something where a character was referred to as being "almost 40" and I was thinking that in real life the actor is way past 40.  Out of curiosity, I just googled the actor's name and he is actually only 35.

So, the question is, when something like this happens, are you supposed to feel good that you look better than someone who's younger than you are (or at least you think you do) or do you feel bad that you're actually older than somebody you already thought was older than you are.   ??? ???

I enjoy the fact that I am usually taken for younger than I really am, but then I think that can depend on what age you REALLY are.

Please I love it!

Most times I get late 20's, I'm 40...see what having a completely bald head does for you!

hey razor...if you want to look older, just stop shavin' and grow back the hair...

I bet you'll look 40! ;)

My experience is that you always look younger with a shaved head.

age and celebreties is an interesting topic.  You never know how old they are 'supposed' to be.

for example Meryl Streep -- in "devil wears prada" she has 2 school age  children.   In another recent movie she has a grown son (where she's a therapist counselling his girlfriend.   So what is it ?

I know that in real life she is about 55 ....

One thing about celebs, though; they make a career of looking younger than they really are

I get underestimates on my age sometimes, it really puts an extra snap in my step.

I just had something along these that happen to me a couple days ago.  I was at a team event for one of my kids, and I was talking to one of the other dads... have to mention that he is quite overweight and thinning hair.  Somehow in our conversation I mentioned my age of 40+, and he looked at me and said, 'you're kidding... I'm 40; I thought you were younger than me.'  It made me feel good, but it probably bummed him out that I was older but looked younger than him.  It's like I'm always telling people, you lose about 10 years when you shave your crappy MPB hair.   O0
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Razor, I wouldn't mind looking 40, I'm 63.  But since 9/7 when I started the buzz path to sly, I've been told numerous times that I look younger, first with the 3/8" buzz, and it continued for the time just more than a month that I buzzed, down to the 1/8".  I think it may have something to do with (1) a hair style generally associated w/ younger people, (2) buzz cuts minimize grey unless it's all grey to begin with, and (3) people look up where gravity and wear and tear haven't begun the "wrinkle processes."  I've gotten many since totally sly, just a few days short of a month ago.  And again, younger style, absolutely no grey, and they all have to look away from the shine before spoting any wrinkles.  I also work out 5-6 days a week, so I don't carry a whole lot in the mid-section (that makes anyone look older than they are), more than I should, but I'll work on that after the holidays.  Here in NO a lot of us gained weight after Katrina, nervous eating, etc.  So hopefully, I'll get back to the pre-Storm waist in due time.

That goes with out saying. They have the greens to shell out on personal trainers, personal chefs, plastic surgery....they can afford the anti aging rituals.

That only works for a little while.  There's only so many facelifts one can have before one starts looking like ET.  I just saw Robert Redford's mug on TV tonight, and man, does he look horrible -- for any age.
