And yeah, head shaving seems like the gateway to buying tons of extra products. I admit to being one of the top offenders.
Not going to lie, you were the first name to come to mind haha. But there are heaps more of us out there in the same boat.
haha I knew it! Seems the addiction is getting better and worse at the same time though. I've pretty much got my routine and products down cold. Yet I did buy a Rolling Razor I have yet to actually use and have given thought to a straight razor and of course all the things that come with that

To my certain knowledge, the only way to come up with a torpedo-bright shiney head is if you have absolutely NO HAIR. Even stubble, even stubble that isn't right beside more stubble eliminates the pure, glassy shine. After 15 years I still have considerable hair and as carefully and closely as I shave it, it's never as bright and glossy as I want. That said, the lube the other guys are talking about may do the trick. I prefer a DE to shave with so am not familiar with HB products. And, by the way, Congratulations! on joining the best fraternity in the world, the one of men who are shaved down and proud!

The problem is what happens if you try the rolling razor and
really love it? Then all the HeadBlade stuff is redundant -- until HeadBlade bring out a new better model that
might be better and around and around we go.
On the other hand one of these gizmos might be much better so you have to do your "research". Would really appreciate a product review of the rolling razor when you've arrived at some conclusions about it.
You're giving your girlfriend plenty of ammo though. You'll never be able to say "stop wasting your money on that tiny jar of $200 eyebag cream".

I'll be sure to do a review when I get around to using it a few times. The last couple weeks have been basically an ongoing test between the Sport and ATX, where the ATX came up wanting. I still use it for other areas though. It just can't touch the Sport for getting my head done right. The thing about the Rolling Razor is, at least by their vids, is excellent blade control. I don't see how it can get any better than the Sport since my thumb basically sits on the back of the razor itself, but we will see.
Haven't yet told the gf about the Rolling Razor yet. Figured it was too soon

Headlube Glossy is great for the shine. Also cold water rise. You can only get the Headblade Sport and triple blades in stores usually. Order Headscrub, Headwash, Headslick and Headlube Glossy- products last a while. Good luck

A week in I think my desire for glossiness is driven by a desire to mask the shadow -- fair skin, almost black hair.
Does the shadow fade over time as skill improves? I know some sun will help but with the current NY temp it'll be a while before I get any solar exposure

Or just something to learn to live with? I'll bet the shadow is a million times more noticeable to me than to anyone else.

For dark hair people there will be a shadow for a very long time but it will improve with sun exposure. It is definitely something we have to live with but oh well just enjoy the bald look and go and have fun

Exactly right. No one really notices it so just forget about it. Remember -- they're mostly worried about how
their hair looks.

Hey Bella another thing to add to your shopping list might be HeadBlade's ClearHead. It is their after shave product and has virtually no smell to it but you will still have to use a moisturizer afterwards.
The reason that I bring it up is that I noticed after I do a cold water rinse, rub some witch hazel on and then apply Clearhead, I have a very nice shine. Of course using a product like Headlube Glossy will only make it better.
One warning though is that ClearHead does have a bit of sting to it when you apply it. All depending on how irritating your shave was.

Unfortunately the shadow is going to be around for a long time. Being the middle of summer, I've been wearign a hat as little as possible to maximise my tan, to reduce my shadow, and even with my dark hair and really dark tan it is just noticeable. But at the end of the day, you are the only one that will care about your shadow, so try not to let it worry you.

Yeah Beardman (and Gary) I think accepting the shadow is just one of those things I need to put on my to - do list.
As my technique improves the shadow is less noticeable but I don't think it's going to get much less prominent than it is now (unless my hair turns white). While some color may help when the winter chill lets up, I'm starting to accept that it's likw my slightly crooked nose -- a reality, but one only I notice or care about.

That's it, don't worry about it, there are more important things to be thinking about then your shadow

Everyone's hair seems to turn white eventually so you can look forward to that. Then you will look back on the "good old days" when you had a more prominent shadow.
