shine!
« on: January 20, 2013, 07:32:20 PM »
I just went sly tonight thanks to the support of the guys in the to be or not to be forum, and I'm already thrilled with being smooth but disappointed in my shine.  I tried some ice cubes but they melted immediately and I don't notice any good shine, but it may just be impatience cos it's been ten minutes :)

Excellent news but we need pics. At least an avatar please.

HeadBlade HeadLube is meant to be good for shine -- the non-matte one.

Just tried to add an avatar, not sure if it's working...

Is headblade stuff only available online?  I'm an impatient new yorker ;)

I imagine that New York being as big as it is that you will be easily able to get it in a shop there. There must be specialist shave type shops there -- try one of those. I reckon that it would be fairly widely available though.

If you're going to stay slick for a while though you will probably want to get a HeadBlade razor of some type for ease of use. I know that you can get those and the cartridges easily in Wal-mart and similar type shops in the US.

HeadBlade razors and HeadSlick I've found in Wal-Mart and Walgreens so far. The HeadLube though, I've only found online. I suppose if you're in a really big hurry, some turtle wax* may do the trick.

* Any and all suggestions made by me that sound like a bad idea, probably are  ;D

You might want to pick up some WitchHazel as well. It'll help with the irritation and close up your pores after you shave.

Put in my order for some glossy aftershave and a headblade classic.  Witchhazel I can get at the drug stire.

What's the story w/ headblade blades?   Usual drugstore types or special order from the site?

headblade lotion glossy
headblade classic

I have loads of regular lotion and shave cream.  Open to suggestions tho.

Most people here use the HB Sport or the HB ATX both of which are an evolution of the classic design thus perhaps work better. You can use a supplied adapter with either to use more commonly available blades if you wish.

I use the sport and it works great.

I think that everyone runs their hand's over their bald heads many times each day -- I haven't begun to tire of it. It feels too --- interesting [but it's hard to say in what way]. There are a lot of unaddressed and unexplained mysteries in baldness.

Some moisturisers might add a bit of shine to it, if you can't find a glossy, another option I've seen thrown around is baby oil. I seem to remember somewhere someone mentioning products that are designed to make your hair shiny will also work on a smooth dome. Hope that helps.

I don't know what the difference is between the classic and the sport, but the sport seems to be what everyone is using these days, if they aren't using an ATX.

At the end of the day, everyone is different and what works for one person might not work for someone else, so in the early days... and well whenever you get curious, you'll possibly doing a fair bit of experimentation. Some guys have been known to spend a sizable sum on shaving products after going sly haha

Welcome,

A cold water rinse adds a lot of shine for me?

That might help?

The difference between classic and sport is that the sport has rear wheels, and the classic has just a bumper. I honestly don't think it's going to make that huge a difference. Personally, I don't even pay attention to the wheels any more. Once you have the angle down, it's down.

Baby oil may help with the shine. I don't know. I use it under the HeadSlick to moisturize and soften things up while shaving. Never used it afterward though, since I'm constantly fighting breakouts and such and extra oil on my noggin doesn't seem like a great idea for me.

And yeah, head shaving seems like the gateway to buying tons of extra products. I admit to being one of the top offenders.
