Thanks, @Rusty Shackleford, the day you cut your beard was a sad day for all of us... I remember it well...
How about an update?
Hum... I think the last time I posted a pic here that Photobucket was still a thing. I'll have to see what I need to do to post another pic.
I don't think I mentioned the last big trim here though. December 2019 and my beard was probably 10" or a little more. I remembered I dyed my beard and then got a haircut with no intention on getting the beard trimmed. Then at the next chair a bald guy with a huge beard came in and got a trim and I decided to trim mine. I had a few inches cut off, but then I decided that I needed to end using hair dye. Since it can't be removed from the hair I kept cutting here and there until last May when I got it down to a paltry 4". At that point most of the dye was visibly gone, and I've let it grow back since then with only a couple minor trims on the tips.
Also in 2019 I was having huge problems with knots and if I pulled my beard through my fist it actually puffed out at the last inch or so. It just hit me recently that I was likely hitting it too hard with a heated brush and just ruined the hair. It's about 7" long now and does not do that, and in 2020 I maybe used the heated brush once (mainly because it was so short anyway)
So now I know!
No dyeing - it's too hard to stop
No heat
This was either the shortest I had it or very close:
Even at its shortest it looks great

Wow... looks great... I think you should definitely ditch the dye... the grey looks awesome.
You can switch to Imgur...
Thanks for the update!
Thats grown!, looks great
ok, I havent seen my top lip in almost 30 years and my chin in about 8 yrs. Been sly now for 3 or 4 years. so ive never been sly and shaven. Feel like a change on the lower face. Advice? short, goatee (never tried), or let it grow?
I was at the same point one year ago. I hadn't had a clean shaven face in several decades, and never with a shaved head. I started noticing alot of guys with bald heads and no facial hair, and finally got up the nerve to shave my face. Wow, what a shock! I didn't recognize myself in the mirror, and didn't like what I saw! Luckily, it grew back pretty fast, but I'm glad I tried it. I suppose it's just like when you first shave your head, it takes time to get used to the change.
@Dragon you have quite the impressive beard, I would hate to see you cut it. Your beard is now part of your face.
Like when people ask me... don't I "miss my face". This IS my face.
That being said, it's your face.
What I will say that is every time in the past 36 years of being bearded... I have regretted every time that I drastically cut or shaved.
If not too late, I vote to keep the beard you have. It looks awesome.
thanks
@slybeard, I havent done anything rash!
