p.s. I also have to mention Amy Winehouse. Hugely talented. Such a shame.

However, to me, the 80s created superstars, whereas the 90s and 00s have created celebrities, which is a different thing altogether.
That's because you're old.

I like most of the old classics from the 60's 70's and 80's!
I have a 50 year grade school class reunion coming up next month. It should be a great time. Really looking forward to it.
Music today just isn't the same as it was in the past.

Since we're talking 80's I would have to say I liked Journey, Duran Duran, Loverboy, Stryper, Thompson Twins, Bow Wow Wow, REM, The Go Go's, Thomas Dolby, U2, Dexy's Midnight Runners and Men at Work, among others!

I never liked Duran Duran. Way too pretty for me. I like Journey although I only discovered them a few months ago

. Didnt like Thompson Twins, loved REM, Dexy's Midnight Runners and Men at Work, but I've never heard of the others

What about Orchestral Manoeuvers (Maneuvers) in the Dark, aka OMD? What about Blondie? Were they/she ever big in America? How about Johnny Hates Jazz? Alison Moyet? Sade?

Blondie was plenty big. Alison Moyet, to me, always seemed like a slightly inferior Annie Lennox. Speaking of whom -- the Eurythmics. What about Grace Jones, the (English) Beat (and successors), Talking Heads?

Johnny Hates Jazz had a big hit in the US in the spring of 88, then faded. Simply Red was popular at the same time. Sade was big in the mid-80's. She was dubbed "the yuppies' favorite jazz musician" by one of the rags.

Never heard of The Beat

I never noticed any similarity between Alison and Annie. Alison has had a much longer and much more successful career than Annie (and a lot more varied), and vocally they dont seem similar to me at all.
Talking Heads were ok. What about Tangerine Dream? Culture Club (or even just Boy George). Genesis? Depeche Mode? Pet Shop Boys, Fine Young Cannibals, Simply Red, and I know I already mentioned them, but I have to mention my favourites again...Tears for Fears
