Shaving question
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:42:51 AM »
I've been doing the clippers no guard for the sandpaper head for about a month now, so I finally did it the other day. I get in the shower thinking this will be the best place. Lather up and start shaving realize I can't see what the heck I am doing so I go slow and try to do a complete job realizing that after I am done I will have to touch up in front of a mirror. Which I had to do a lot of. Which brings me to my questions.

1. If you shave in the shower. How do you make sure you do a complete job?
2.  How in the heck do you guys make sure you get the back of your head done completely? I checked with a second mirror to make sure but, there has got to be a better way.

Loved it by the way! I'll post a pic when I can.

I shave in front of the mirror, when I do the back I just do a few passes, then i'll rub against the grain, then go over the spots I missed.

So I do it all by feel, I'm pretty sure most the people here do as well.

Yep,  you have to feel it.  Just like Morthen says.  I do my whole head that way.  I keep my free hand over my eyebrows when I'm doing the front,  some people just shave them too.

I shave at the sink after a shower, and after shaving I hop back in for a cold water rinse of my head and face.  I use Headslick the HB with HB triples.  I shave by feel, but have to remind myself not to move my head and look at myself while shaving the back on the head.  I'm afraid of any unintended lateral movement of the the HB and a nick.  It's hard not to look, but if I keep my head stationary, and shave against the grain with the HB on my right hand, I do OK.  It's all by feel.  I get an mirror and look sometimes when I'm done, but you can't see the sandpaper that you feel.
Like everyone here says, "Practice makes perfect".

Yep, you gotta feel around to make sure.  Give it 30 days and it will become much easier and quicker.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I have a mirror in the shower, but I mostly go by feel.  I shave all the way, then feel around and do some touch ups as needed.

With time you will get better at it. I go by feel as well. If you follow along with you free hand after your passes with the razor, you can feel where you need to line up to begin your next pass.

I agree with everyone here.  Go by feel: Use the Force!

Tom you are exactly correct - - -I do not even look in the mirror

I rub my hand over my dome and on the back of my head - as I am shaving  - -  it takes me less than 5 minutes to shave now  -every day

I also have a mirror in the shower, do most of my head tops and sides with the mirror and go by feel in the back.  This works best for me.

I pretty much go by feel on the back and use a mirror for the rest.

As always, I'll preface this by saying that this is what I do, and your MPG may vary due to differences in tire pressures and wind resistance.

I'm a HeadBlader, and I have been for 3-4 years now.  I go from front to back, making sure to overlap my "mowing rows" as I go.  Most of the time I don't worry too much about the back of my head, I just leave it sandpaper short from the first pass.  If I'm going for the full-smooth, I'll re-lather the back part of my head and go against the grain.  I have a couple of speed bumps on the back of my head, courtesy of some mishaps as a kid, so I slow down just a bit more when I get to that point to make sure the blade glides into the valleys without making the rivers flow, so to speak.

I'm not going to preach too much about the HB, but I would reccomend that you at least give it a try sometime when you have an extra 13 bucks.
