« on: November 11, 2009, 09:56:54 PM »
Ok sportsfans.

I ordered the latest electric marvel from Conair today from Newegg.com

As soon as it arrives I will check back here and give it a review. It looks interesting and for the life of me I could not find anyone anywhere's who has given it a review.

I will be the  Sly Guinea Pig.

To be continued..............

It cost me $34.99 Newegg had free shipping. As I understand it the blades should last 6 months.

Approximately 24 of those M5 cartridges for $35........That's about a year of shaves.......... might be tough to beat that.

I'm interested in the ConAir because it would be nice to keep in the car for tose lazy mornings..........

Hey Folks,

I also purchased the Conair and have used it for almost 2 weeks.  Here's my take:

Shave Closeness:  Very Good - I would say virtually as close as a razor.  Per the instructions, it says it takes 3 weeks or so to acclimate the dome to a foil shaver, especially if you used a razor before.  This is due to scar tissue buildup from constantly scraping off hair and skin with each shave.  Not sure how true that is, but I will say my shaves are closer this week than less week.  Part of that is also due to me getting used to using the shaver.

Shave "Lastness".  Good to Very good.   Sly feel not quite as long as with a razor but pretty close.  I feel stubble by late afternoon.  But it is lasting longer each week as I break in the shaver.

Shave Shine/Oilyness:  EXCELLENT.  Not sure why, but my dome is not nearly as oily as before - probably becasue I'm not shaving off a layer of skin. I have more of a matte look now - shiny but not oily.

Bumps/Irritation:  EXCELLENT.  No more nicks or cuts, ingrown hairs, etc

Time Savings:  EXCELLENET.  So far I've "shaved" 5-10 minutes off my routine.  I no longer have to soak my head for an extended period of time, apply shave oil & shave cream, let it sit, shave.  I now take my normal shower, dry off, apply a little lectric shave to the face and dome (I brought out my norelco rotary for the face) shave & moisterize.

The nice thing with the Conair is it's no big deal if you choose to shave again at night.  No real prep need other than a dash of lectric shave.

One con is it's noisy but I've become accustomed to it.

So far I'm loving it

Ok. Newegg delivered it in a few days. I recommend them anyhow. They gave great deals and have been a pleasure to deal with so far.

Charged it up overnight, They recommend 16 hours.

Let me preface this post with a few caveats.
  • I consider a close shave so close that my whole head feels the same. What I mean by that is the parts that were already bald and require little to no shaving will ultimately be as smooth as the rest of my head.
  • I have very thick hair and apparently should be shaving twice a day because when I shave the back of my head hurts a bit afterwards.

That being said my 1st day of using the electric I was pleased. My head was smooth enough to leave the house with. It was not as smooth as a blade though. What I did though was to use a blade to get the rest off.

Now you may say.."Why bother with the Norelco if you are going to use creme anyway" and I would answer with this: The shave was fast, pain free and after I finished up with the Bald Guyz Moisturizer Gel there was very little stinging which can be quite painful every day. I also didn't use shaving oil which I normally do.

I will give this thing more time and I possibly might get it to the point of no blade shaving in the future but here is my take:

This thing was only $35 bucks. Not the hundreds a good Linear Panasonic costs. I would use it for a quick touch up part later on in the day.  It made my dome shaved but not baby ass close. In short acceptable. I was pleased because I didn't expect blade closeness. They say  there is a breaking in time so I will report back here down the road. They said it would take a few weeks for your head to adjust to the foil blades. I found it not necessary.

In short I am happy with my purchase but not thrilled. Time will tell.

OK Kevin, let's not exaggerate.  The current generation Panasonic Linear can be had for ~$120.00  ^-^
