Post-shave Alcohol
« on: March 06, 2007, 03:50:35 PM »
I picked up a tip from some young sly gangster dudes here in SC LA - they use rubbing alcohol after they shave to cut down on razor bumps.  I've been doing it ever since as part of my routine.

Don't know if it does anything for me but it feels good in that Mellencamp hurts-so-good kind of way.

Anyone else heard of this?

Someone mentioned Witch Hazel once before, but I think alcohol would hurt a little.

the way I look at it is: the main ingredient in aftershave is alcohol, why spend $10 on a bottle of aftershave with the scent you like that no one else is going to be able to smell anyway? You can spen $1 and get a big ass bottle of isopropyl at Wal-Mart.

I suspect that would really dry your head out, if you're prone to dry skin like mine, not to mention the pain.  Witch Hazel stings a little, but it has a little bit of alcohol in it.

I remember that the "Old Style" Barber Shop "after shave" treatment was a combo of cocoa butter and Witch Hazel.

The Barber would splash the Witch Hazel onto your face, and then rub on some cocoa butter at the same time, followed by some talcum powder...

Quite a nice trick, especially after an "Old Style" Straight Edge Shave & Hot Towel treatment... ahhhh the "Good Old Days"......

All the best,

Tony

A couple of my black buddies have told me that they use the same thing to help cut down on razor bumps.

I'm a big fan of post shave alcohol. Then again, I'm a fan of pre-shave alcohol as well !  O0

I prefer the post shave routine.  Tried the pre-shave, my hand shook too much and I cut myself.

I need about 5 minutes of sober time each day, and that's it.

I use aftershave balm, which works really well ... never tried alcohol but I would have though that would just lead to more nicks and bumps ...  *hic* *slash* "Arrrghhhhh"

Remember those commercials where you had the old guy using the Mouth Wash and he is quoted as to saying "The Burn tells you its working"... Post Shave Alcohol Rocks .  I am not a fan of the Pre-Shave Alcohol though, seeing as my shave follows right after my two hour stint in the Gym [Find that a Mid Workout ScrewDriver sorta loosens my bolts a little too much].

I mean, I am not a fan of the Burn, but think of it as your mid-morning Molotove Cocktail, Helps keep you cool as its firing you Up!   @nn!3
