From feeling the shape of my skull through my hair i definately have some issues in the back of my head... flat spots or possibly could even be indents (i might be over reacting).
I am obviously balding and feel like it looks rediculous on me at this point, ive fought it for as long as i can, i feel like D-day is approaching as i HAVE to get my hair cut this week or ill end up looking like frasier
So what would you guys do... if you had the serious risk of having obvious dents in the back of head, would you risk shaving it off or just deal with having a rediculous hairstyle?
I know there is no way to be certain until i actually do it. But i have to work mon-fri in a very interpersonal job where i have several meetings with clients a day. Im not sure i could pull off the same self confidence that i need in these meetings if i had obvious dents in the back of my head.
Advice? - PLEASE

Shave it!!! Everyone has some type of dent, scar, or something else that they overreact to. Give shaving a good honest shot and you won't regret it!!

Welcome BrianB.
When I was working through my shave/not shave era, I thought I had this big dent on the left side of my crown right around the bozo the clown hairline. Amazingly it was how my hair grew in, and once I shaved I found an undented noggin. I was actually shocked but really happy. I am not saying its the same case for you but something to consider.
You won't know till its gone, and there is really nothing you can do about it if it is.
If you decide not to shave and you hair falls out it will be there then if it exists. It defines who you are, so don't sweat it.

Do it Brian. I had the same thoughts (my brother always said I had a big head growing up and I had a complex about it) and the only thing I've heard after going sly is compliments about headshape. You're probably in the same boat.

Oh and I love the Frasier reference, I remember when he did a joke on Saturday Night Live. He wore a wig and said that he has a full head of hair, that he only plays a balding man on his TV show, I thought it was cool that he was able to joke about it.

Welcome to the Forum Brian!
Here at SBG where we love our shaved heads.....dents, impressions, bumps, scars, etc. are referred to as "Dome Decor". They give each of us our own character.
I personally have three small scars on me noggin'!

You don't say if you've done a tight buzz, #1. If not try that as a "preview" of your future. We all feel and see "defects" such as bumps and dents--but in reality no one else notices. Most here will tell you that meeting people you haven't dealt w/ before is a non-event--remember they will have never known you but as a guy w/ a totally shaved head--SLY. And, mpb doesn't reverse--at some point your appearance became such that you'll look better sly. We can't comment since there's no picture yet. Finally, if you do the full monty, to the bone, and you are not comfortable, it will grow out to a #1 in a week.
And just to pull your leg a little, unless you don't face the people you meet in your line of work, they'll never know what's going on on the back of your head.
All things considered, the old expression, Try It, You'll Like It, applies. Most wonder why they waited so long.

My "deformed" head story:
Full head of hair...always felt like I had a lump in the back of my head, but didn't care because it was covered.
Buzz cut (to get an idea if I might like the bald look)...wife said I had a "wierd looking bump" on the back of my head. Great...maybe shaving isn't the best idea if I'm going to look like a freak.
Shaved...no lump/bump!
So I learned a couple things:
1. Unseen (but felt) abnormalities always seem larger and/or worse than they really are
2. Due to the shape of my head, having short hair produced shadows that actually made it
look
like I had a bump where there really wasn't one
This is my long-winded way of saying....go for it!

Good points CHS, you never know what it will look like and most of the time you are over-reacting.
The first time I shaved my head and comitted to the sly look (that was 10 years ago now) I got this really weird hard bump- some "reaction" from the razor or something. I was scared thinking oh man it looks terrible.
Within an hour it was gone and I have shaved every day since with no more problems...
Point is even if it doesn't look "great" right away don't give up. You are most likely the only one that notices the "special Features" of your scalp anyways. Sly is my way of life and will never go back. My wife has only seen pictures of what I looked like with hair!

Very few people have perfect heads (I have a flat spot in the back), and there's nothing you can do about that. BUT there is no way to make balding/thinning look good. If shaving is too scarey, go for a very close buzz cut. This is always a better option than a version of Frazier, etc. We are all our worst enemy. Post up some pics, and we'll give you a 'VERY UNBIASED' opinion.

A dent or a bump is definitely NOT an excuse, bro
Most of us would think we had a bump or a dent of some kind, but I bet not many onlookers would be able to tell. Shave it smooth

BUT there is no way to make balding/thinning look good.
And that's what it all comes down to in the end. And any perceived dents, bumps, or other "flaws" will likely be exposed by MPB anyway. Accept the inevitable, shave your head, and then you can get on with more important things.
