So many people stress the importance of the first impression, but I personally feel how you end a moment with someone is far more important.
Welcome Clipped, I am a CPA myself and had some of the same reservations as you are having right now. I work in the audit field and have not had any negative reactions. Very honestly it has not been an issue at all. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions or want more feedback.
As far as a professional appearance, as a lawyer, I find shaved is totally acceptable here in the conservative south for a professional. I shave every day, it does make me look younger according to almost every comment at work. Also, as many here will tell you, people remember your name as they never did w/ the mpb. That's a plus in a job search w/ otherwise good credentials. Enjoy the freedom, live sly. A fresh haircut everyday!
I go to an old fashioned barber shop (not a salon, or a supercuts chop shop) run by young guys who are a pleasure to chat with - it's a real all male hang-out place. If I switch to a weekly #1 buzz, which is probably where I would be comfortable now & for the job search, that'll add-up at $18/cut & I am trying to cut expenses. But honestly, I would feel bad about not giving him the business in this economy ... real old fashioned barber shops are a dying institution up here. I suppose I could self buzz and stop in once a month for a professional job, and he wouldn't be offended. If I hadn't been going to this barber, who encouraged me to switch to a buzz as my mpb advanced, I am not sure I would have gotten to this point. Any thoughts?
