New member here. In my 50s; MPB ... almost horseshoe and mostly white. I have slowly moved from a "businessmans' regular" to a #0 Top/#0A S&B...getting a barber shop cut every 2-3 weeks. But just bought my own "beard trimmer clipper" and occassionally self buzz to either #1 or a a "2 day shave" look. I have had the barber do a "no guard" buzz a few times, and I like the look. Wife likes it also. I am still in pretty good shape, with young kids, so it helps to look younger. The issue: now starting to look for a new job. I am a cpa with a finance institution expertise, so I will be looking in fairly conservative places. Intuitively, I know that the tight buzz is conservative, well kempt looking, makes me look younger (than the alternative horseshoe of longer hair) and more "with it". But my buzz sometims makes me self conscious (as oppossed to more self confident). I am not ready for razor shaving....though curious for the next long vacation perhaps. I prefer the tight buzz look. Any other cpas/finance people in the group and how did you find people's reactions? Is the tight buzz a plus or minus, or a non-issue in the job search?

Welcome to the gang! Now a days being slick smooth is in fashion. If your ready for it do it!! The general rule is to do it for 30 days. If you go #1 there is not much more then a shave with a blade. Don't worry about what others think if you like it do it.

Welcome. You should do what you're comfortable w/. As far as a professional appearance, as a lawyer, I find shaved is totally acceptable here in the conservative south for a professional. I shave every day, it does make me look younger according to almost every comment at work. In addition, I even have had one or two people say that they didn't realize that I was so tall--I'm only 5'9 1/2"
. Just shows what the "authority" impact of totally sly is. Also, as many here will tell you, people remember your name as they never did w/ the mpb. That's a plus in a job search w/ otherwise good credentials. Enjoy the freedom, live sly. A fresh haircut everyday!

Welcome Clipped ~ Sounds to me like you're really a good candidate for a blade shave (I realize you say you're not ready for that yet) and the enviable shadow-free noggin, compliments of the white remaining hair.
As to acceptance of short buzzed or shaved as a professional look -- I think you have no worries.

Welcome Clipped, I am a CPA myself and had some of the same reservations as you are having right now. I work in the audit field and have not had any negative reactions. Very honestly it has not been an issue at all. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions or want more feedback.
