this is a random question but i was thinking......
« on: December 11, 2008, 01:06:55 PM »
does anyone know if its possible for your hair to stop falling out after it has already started (without using any drugs or creams) or does it automatically continue for the rest of your life until you have lost all the hair on your head? im just wondering if my badly receding hairline could just suddenly stop losing hair and thats all that i lose for the rest of my life, or if i should count on it continuing until im bald.

That can be a tough question to answer because everyone is different.

I know some people who have lost almost all their hair and I know others who have lost a certain amount and then basically stopped. Some people may lose a lot of hair on the crown and that's all , however some will continue to lose it all their lives.

My Dad lost most of his on his crown by the time he was 30 and had some thinning on top. His hair basically stayed the same for the rest of his life. I, on the other hand have already lost more hair than he did and it seems to have slowed down some.

So, I think it all depends on the individual and maybe a lot to do with the gene pool.

do you know if shaving slows down the balding process or does it not make a difference?

I think the same thing.  Take a look at your family tree.  I come from a long line of baldies, so its in my blood.

Personally, although I am not a Doctor, I don't think it makes any difference

W/ me, the hole showed up in back, and some receding occurred and it seemed to stop for about 5-10 years.  Then the hole enlarged and that let to the minoxidile experiment that ended up w/ a bad rash and a couple of visits to the dermatologist to clear up.  I think it must have just continued to thin rather than race back, but the next time I seemed to notice was about 5-6 years ago getting out of the shower w/ wet hair really showed loss.  That was the beginning of the heavy use of spray, shampoos, etc. trying to make it look "full".  Until about two years ago when I was tying my tie to go to work and in the mirror I looked through my hair and there was a combover--i.e. hair lacquered just above the bald part at the front and --at the window behind me.  WAKE UP time.  I stewed, knew it had to come off, just didn't know when to do it.  Finally, for whatever reason about five months later, I sat in the chair and told the barber, "Buzz it!"  Then my cousin (Sly) gave me his clippers from his buzz days and I did it myself, shorter and shorter noticing that w/ the buzz I had a "toilet seat" of thick hair around a landing strip that basically disappeared in bright light leaving me a clearly balding man, and that lasted a week or so until one Friday morning  in October of 07 I just finished the deed and wondered then and still do why the H_LL I waited so long.

Hi Ghost1988,   First I want to reply to a question you asked me somewhere else.   I am from Middle East (Kurdish from Iraq).
Now to your problem.  I don't know the answer to your question but let me say something here.  A human who looks too far ahead into the future will most likely feel very scared of what can happen.   But here is the thing.  A human being is born very strong.  He gains that strength through the experiences he faces.   He goes through problems, stress, fear, etc. that make him strong.  A human being is much stronger than he thinks he is.  A human being can withstand so much more than he believes.   This is a fact that noone can doubt.
Let me ask you, how many times have you thought a situation would be so hard to deal with but that when it came it was easier than you thought?  Think about that.
You are here even though you say your hairline is receding quite badly.  How are you handling that?  Have you committed suicide? No.  Do you cry about it every single day? No, right?  You are here because you are strong and therefore you are able to handle this situation.  Trust me, no matter what happens with your hair in the future you will be able to handle it with happiness (if you choose to of course).   Have faith in yourself, and look at all the problems you have dealt with in life.  You were able to deal with them because of how strong you are as a human being.
By the way, have you read Dr.Phil's book "preparing for the 7n most challenging days of your life"? If not, you should.

A lot depends on your age.  The earlier you start losing your hair, the more hair you're likely to lose.   So a guy who's noticeably thinning or receding in his 20s is probably destined to be completely bald at some point.

Look at it this way -- you're way ahead of the curve.  About half your friends will end up bald sooner or later and when it happens to them, it will have long ceased to be an issue for you.

I thinned out at 19 and then again, after hair transplants (lol) in my early 40's. I probably wont lose any more hair because I lasered myself down to an old man's MPB> Re your question, it takes time. Follow your blood line.
