what age did everyone start losing their hair?
« on: December 04, 2008, 09:13:38 PM »
ive had a receding hairline since i was about 18. now im 20 and the hairlines gotten drastically worse to the point of just being this thin strip. (its gotten worse since my default). i might regret saying this later but..........i almost wish i had no hair on top instead of this thin strip because it looks rediculous with my already large forehead lol. being self conscious is a bitch....

what age did everyone start losing their hair? and when did it start really getting noticeable?

I don't think a guy ever forgets the first day he realizes he is losing hair.  For me it was around Thanksgiving at the age of 17.  I started Propecia at the age of 21 (I'm not here endorsing drugs either).  Now at the age of 31 I feel its getting noticeable, and tired of taking drugs.

I started noticing my hairline receding at age 19, now I'm 24.
But I want to point out something.  If it is considered inappropriate or against the rules then I would
hope a moderator would delete my comment.
So here it is.  Ghost, you don't seem to be a peace with your hairline.  I don't know if you are a religious
guy or not but research continues to show over and over that people who are religious tend to find more
peace when it comes to dealing with difficult moments.  I find that praying to God and asking Him for help
brings me peace in difficult moments.  So to me, religious commitment is the best way to deal with difficult times.
So again, I apologize if this is against the rules.  I'm just offering an advice.

mathematician thats good advice. i am religious actually. it doesnt mean people who are relgious dont get depressed over hairloss though. you can be at peace all you want, its not gonna bring your hair back though. you still have to deal with it on a day to day basis.

if it was as easy as that ide simply say...."god can i please have my hair back?" along with the millions of others. its not that simple lol. trust me......ive tried.

i still do.....haha

this was off topic though. i was just reponding to your comment. this board isnt really for discussing religion.

well Baldmath I got your back 100%, I share your religious views... but I want to add that any kind of spirituality is probably more healthy than none, you have to be at peace with yourself, so whatever zen works for an individual is a good starting point.

Ghost, I would trade my rapidly thinning hair for a receding hairline in a heartbeat, just out of preference of having more shadow when I get older. However the purpose of this forum ( in my opinion and please correct me if I'm wrong) is to communicate with other bald men in order to become comfortable with MPB/ yourself, and to regain/rebuild your confidence

also I would like to add that drinking is not a spiritual activity...

to answer the main post... 20/21 is when it was noticeable... 22 now, and still working on acceptance. In Hindsight though, it may have started as early as 18

Actually, I think a little shadow on top on a guy your age is kind of cool.  It sort of tells the world that you shaved your head because you wanted to, and yes, the hairline may be receding but you really aren't bothered by it.  Besides, the shadow is not as noticeable to the rest of the world as you might think.

You've already shaved your head, so there's really nothing more that can be done to address your hair situation.  Instead of obsessing over something that's beyond your control, focus on things that you need to improve (we all have them) that you do have some control over.  Maybe spruce up your wardrobe, working out more, learning to speak another language or play an instrument -- whatever floats your boat.  All of those things will boost your confidence and by concentrating on them, you're concentrating less on your lack of hair.

I was maybe like 18/19 when it started receeding and becoming noticable for me, but I kept at it clinging on to my hair, then I saw a photo that someone had taken with a flash and I was like  g@@4

So I chatted to the GF and shaved it off age 21.....and here I am!!

I started losing the hair on the back or crown of my head first. I guess I was in my 20's and it was very noticable.

Didnt really notice.  Although I class myself as BBC, my hair started receding when I was about 17, and gradually got higher at the temples.  I didnt really notice it at the time, but when i see photos of me aged 16 and 17 I can see how much it receded in the meantime. 8)

i started losing my hair at 17, but i actually shaved it at 20. I got tired of being in denial about it and having my hair make my head look like one of the Aliens from the movie, since the thick horseshoe made the back of my head stick out.
