Early to mid 30's cant remember to tell the truth.  I've been cutting my hair with clippers for almost 20 years and one day the wife (who used to cut it for me) said "you're getting thin up here" so I said "huh, let's go shorter then". The rest is history.

The first little bald patch was at 15 or so and from 17 onwards it retreated and oddly enough it stopped at 22 ( or maybe that´s just because the loss is not that obvious anymore  ;D )

In my case, I was about 42 when it all started to thin a bit, in the past 3 to 4 months it seems to have become a bit more rapid and it is now noticeable if I let it grow out for a week or so. I mentioned in a past post that I have relatively coarse hair, I was not expecting perhaps so much thinning. Does anyone else have coarse hair that is also balding?  8)

Noticed some thinning on top after I turned 40, and it's now pretty much all gone on top, 'cept for a bit of light fuzz.

Hey there JJ,

If I'm not being too rude, what age are you now? As I am trying to work out how long it took from initial onset to having the balding you have now.
I am 43 and it appears to be a rapid process, kinda has taken me by surprise.

Mine started at 17 with high widows peaks and by about 21 or so MPB was really noticeable on top.

13 years of age my hair started thinning out. at age 17 I had the back of my head thinning a lot.  by 18 i started buzzing down and it was very noticable. I'm 21 now and smoothley shaven. Bets choice I ever took.

The look was starting to become more common then, but it definitely wasn't as mainstream as it is now.  Musicians and artsy-types were sporting the look but it wasn't something you saw in the corporate world like you do now.

Close-cut for the business folks is still in. Shaving became popular say 12-14 years ago. A lot more guys 40+ are going completely bald.

What's most scientifically interesting about this is the wide age spread. Although I realize that the body of knowledge is a lot bigger since I last studied biology, it wasn't long ago that MPB was thought to be caused by only one gene. If that were the case, wouldn't it stand to reason that guys who have it would all lose their hair at more or less the same age?

What does the conventional wisdom say about this?
