I really recommend not using cold water, and there might be some nasty bacteria in the water too, so you really don't want to nic yourself i would imagine

Timmj.....just do a google search for portable solar water heaters.......Mother earth news has plans for one built out of a tire inner tube. I have in the field, used cardboard panels covered in aluminum foils and directed at a pan of water......The water does not boil, but the water does get very warm.......You cant shave in the morning, but you can get the water hot enough to shave in the evening........If you get desperate, get a can of black spray paint...when you get their, paint a garden hose, put both ends up at the same level, just a foot or so above the ground. Fill hose till water is coming out of each end and let it bake in the sun for a couple of hours........tada...hot water.........

My 2 cents...
You on a friggin island and its 100 degrees, in the tropics = tropical waters = warm salty water.
Take the headslick and razor to the beach and shave in the surf!!
Maybe you'll see "Wilson" floating by and you can yell for him... Willlllsonnnnnn!

we found out on Monday that the generator used to supply electricity to the neighborhood we are staying is has broken down. They are working on it, but having it back up and running by the time we get there is looking fairly slim. A request for batteries has been issued. So we may have more on our plate than we thought when we get there. I think I have just come to the conclusion that I am going to give myself a nice good shave on Saturday morning in Miami on the 11th, and let it go for a week. We get back into Miami on the 18th...so maybe it wont be so bad. If i find the opportunity to shave it during the week, I will. And too...Its not about ME while I am there anyways, dont you all agree?

Agree with you Tim. Besides, it's not like they have shave police watching you or something...

You never know though....with the UN down there, its hard to tell what they are up too. Most of the people in Haiti have either very low cuts or are buzzed all the way down. If worse comes to worse I can go to the local barber there like I did the last time and they can use the clippers on it to buzz it down if it gets too long. They use razors down there but as I sat and watched them shave a guys head, all they used was a single double edge blade between their fingers. I would not trust that for nothing. It was amazing though, the barber shaved it all off witout a cut.

Oh dont worry, I wont be. He ( the barber) wanted to touch up around my neck with the razor when I was there the last time, I told him I would rather not, i liked it when there was hair on my neck LOL.

I'd just grow it out Timmay - I tried shaving with cold water during the power outage and it was not fun... also with the likely bacteria in their water probably wouldn't be a good idea - also your own water supply will probably be limited. You're doing a great thing so just take comfort in the fact that you can shave when you get back to the States - it'll give you something to look forward to.
