Just bought a new weightbench.
« on: April 01, 2008, 04:23:33 AM »
I have been contemplating joining a gym for quite some time but they are all so damn expensive. Most want to sign you up for a 1 year membership and this can run you up to $1k+.

I have been doing bicep curls with a dumbbell that I have had for about 2 years and jogging occasionaly. I got a call from my wife the other day who spotted a great little weight bench on sale for $99. I really wanted to be able to work out at home(I have a $600 exercise bike which I dont use enough). It came with 150lbs of weights. I have started a fitness regime and I have been on a Lite N Easy diet for about 2 weeks and have already lost about 5 lbs. It is a calorie controlled diet similar to Jenny Craig. My wife is also on it and she has lost nearly 10lbs! She also chases after a 10 month old all day so she is quite active.

This little weight bench will service my purpose and hopefully I will bulk up and get fit. It was getting way too bad. I have gained 20lbs in just over 1 year. I knew something had to change.

Anyone else have a home weights or exercise equipment?

jdog... good 2 C that U R in the fitness mode.  as far as fitness equipment... we have a treadmill that we purchased from sears several years ago.  unfortunately...i haven't been on that thing for about 4 years. :/O  dang...that's a long time, i plan on getting back into shape this month.  i'm  controlling it (wt. loss) with a moderation in my diet but i really need 2 get with the program.  your topic might push me over that fence. Congrats JDog. Good luck with the workout plan.

As far as home equipment, we have a HealthRider that is awesome.....when you use it. Every time I mention that machine, it reminds me to bring that back into the regimen. I know resistance training is good to do for weight loss.

Most of my workouts involve running, and I've been doing yoga once a week (which I love).

Right on! Good job on being pro-active on the workout thing.

I have an exercise bike that I use from time to time and I go to the gym a couple times a week.

Make sure you have someone to spot you on those bench presses.

I have a treadmill, weight bench, and a good amount of weights down in the basement that haven't been touched in at least 2 years.  I find myself getting very lazy when it comes to working out.  Every time I think about it it just seems like there is something better to do.

Our friend just gave us an elliptical machine.  It's nice to be able to jump on it without having to head to the gym.

We have an elliptical machine, gym grade, and we love it. I have it in the famil room right where I can watch sports on the Big Screen as I use it.

Awesome Jdog!

I have found a GREAT motivation to stick with the gym is THIS...

I decided to be someone's dad...he deserves a healthy dad that will be around for him as long as possible..

period.

Trying to stay healthy is not an option..it's my underlying job and a must...

it's just as important as putting food on the table and having a roof over your head !

Amen brother. This is why I quit smoking and why I made the decision to get in the best shape I can. I want to be around as long as possible.

Yea...just because I finally got the nerve to become a dad at 40...

why should he suffer because I started late in the game...?!

I'll almost be 60 when he graduates high school :o...

I better be in decent shape!

I have a teadmill made by a company called Smooth Fitness in New Jersey. They were one of the top 10 treadmill companies in a Runner's World poll when I bought mine. I also have a Weider Max machine which is similar to a Bowflex but cheaper. I also do a workout called TaeBo Impact which involves the use of a pedestal bag.
I, however, have been really lazy for about the last month since my step-daughter and her 3 kids moved in with us. But thanks for this thread, maybe I will be able to get my a$$ back in gear.

Just to add to this topic, I'm currently down to 200lbs even. Aiming for 175 so I still have a few lbs to go. I have lost 24lbs in about 6 weeks. I feel great. I have more energy, I am able to play with my little son without feeling lethargic and lazy. it is a wonderful feeling. In 6 months I hope to be down to my ideal weight of between 175-180.

Im at the gym 2 x a week and walk whenever I can. Getting back to golf. I see too many people who are in terible shape as they approach retirement. Best to get started as early as possible to get into shape!
