Hey PB... welcome aboard. I think you'll find this site does have a lot to offer and I hope you stick around and contribute.
PB, thanks for being so candid about your procedure and providing us some education about past procedures versus modern day procedures. I know that every guy must make the decision that is going to help them have the most confidence going forward and if you tried head shaving and it didn't provide you the confidence that you needed, then I can't fault you in trying another route such as a hair transplant. I'm just glad that you're happy with the results as I've heard way more horror stories than I have heard happy stories.
Also, thank you for letting me keep your picture up.
Thanks for the friendly welcome

A HT definitely isn't for everybody - you see many young guys getting their hairlines restored back to how it was at age 15 and these guys are going to be in trouble later on when their donor hair runs out and they are left with a horse shoe rim of hair and a bit of a hairline. I'm happy with my HT - due to my age and the fact that my hair loss wasn't as severe as some guys', I'm not likely to rapidly lose more hair and I've also had a " mature" hairline design and the whole frontal region filled in, so that I won't look totally ridiculous if I do eventually lose the hair behind my transplant. Some guys do naturally keep some hair at the front even though their crown becomes completely bald.
The simplest and easiest way to deal with hair loss is to shave it off like you guys have done, but unfortunately the sly bald look wasn't for me. I'm glad you can feel good about yourselves naturally, without surgery

I run my own small hair loss web site and every now and again some guy comes on for advice about getting a HT so that he can shave his head afterwards

Not completely bald, they want to have stubble. I have advised these guys not to get a HT because buzzed down transplanted hair doesn't look natural, it only looks natural when at a certain length. In the future, I will send these guys over to this site
I find it interesting that the main reason for not going sly is because of the head shape.
Seems like there is some acceptance of who and what you are that needs to be looked at. Good luck with whatever you do, seems like it might be a long struggle.

This is a great point that I imagine a lotta guys don't realize.
I should apologize for my "outburst" it really didnt pertain to me so I should have just overlooked this post. But I do apologize...I will keep my mouth shut if it doesnt have anything to do with me.

Here is a picture of a guy with only transplanted hair on top of his head and his transplanted hair buzzed down:

Because the donor hairs are usually much thicker than the hairs at the front (they are taken from the back of your head) and transplanted hair over a large area like this, there isn't enough density for hair this short and the hairs are too thick. If he grew it out, it would look natural and give the illusion of a full head of hair.
I will be shaving my head this summer, so I may call back in to show pictures of how my hair looks at this length and also show my scar. I may be getting some hairs put into my scar at the back where it has stretched slightly. The scar isn't visible at the sides.
No matter how you slice it, or sugar coat it, to me transplants are ridiculous. If you're going to go to that length for vanity, you need to take a good look at yourself. It's a superficial fix. The confidence you need should come from the inside, not from row upon row of doll like hair.

Been there; done that. Do appreciate the info. Keep me informed. I had mine reversed and am always happy to pass onto people, who ask, or I run into, the latest technology on reversing or making transplants look better after the fact.
Transplants are silly. I'd never do it... If I wanted hair on my head, I'd grow it lol.
