Not Embarrassed

We hear so much from guys with thinning hair or on the fence and the apprehension that it brings.  I read about guys worrying about what people will think, how will it look, etc...  I figured, if I don't like it, it'll grow back.  I want to hear about the other side of the coin.

When I shaved my head the first time I WANTED to go out and see what people thought.  I thought it was fun and exciting to do something totally different.  I went places that I knew people would know me to see their reaction. 

Are there other guys that feel the same way?

gaslick...good topic, btw.  hells yeah...i did the same thing after going sly.  i wanted 2 go out & show my new look.  i totally agree that i thought it was fun (also) & enjoyed the reactions.

I loved the reactions that I got.  Everytime I went out, it just got better.  Now people just expect me to have the shaved head, so it's not as fun anymore unless I go somewhere new.  Maybe I should grow my hair out so people don't expect me to be shaved anymore...just kidding!

I went sly due to a barber shop misunderstanding so I was in shock at first. After a day i was in love the sly way of life.  When I think about going back I think of the washing and the drying and the product and brushing and mirror checking and and the "it's time for a hair cut then I say "Hell no! I won't go back." My attitude is if someone doesn't my sly look, screw them.

Before my days of sly I had a bald spot, but I'm so tall no one could see it. When I would sit down people would remark on the bald spot and I would be so embarrassed. Now that I'm sly I love bald jokes and comments. Bring 'em on!

I WAS a bit apprehensive going to work the first day after going sly, being BBC.  But after the first day I found I loved going out and getting the reactions that I did and do get when I go some place new or meet old friends who haven't seen me since going sly.

I know some people like it on me and some people hate it. Oh well, being sly is definitely a part of me now that I don't plan on changing.
Never was embarassed about it, just explained to people that I get relief from an itchy scalp by shaving. When people hear that, that's when I usually hear, "Hey Schro, it looks good on ya!"

When I did mine it was on a friday night.  We go to this pizza restaurant every friday..so everyone expects us to walk in about the same time.  Well just imagine the questions I got on my first hour of being sly.....

I figured the initial reaction from most people would be "WHOA!!!!........... and it was. Some guys taunted...... I didn't care.

It's about me, not them.

Now EVERYONE says I look better and younger.

Only around people that we know REALLY well was I just a little apprehensive.....the ones that have the misguided notion that the ONLY reason to shave one's head is if you have advanced MPB (which I don't).

But I could count those folks on one hand.  Other than that, I was perfectly confident being out and about in public.

I wasn't apprehensive in the least. When you get to be my age (ok, I'm only 50) you sort of stop caring about what people think about something so trivial as hair.

Besides, I'd been buzzing my head with guard-less clippers for over two decades. Hardly anyone noticed the difference!

I was VERY apprehensive at first.  But then, when i saw it was no big deal to most people I got to enjoy seening people who were seeing me sly for the first time.  And I enjoy very much just being out in public in general; seeing the reactions of strangers ...

I was only nervous or apprehensive about being seen the first time by people I knew.  I think it had more to do with having to explain why I did it (as if it made a difference or was any of their business).  But I was anxious to just go out in public situations where I didn't know anyone.  It was definitely a confidence booster.

I took'er down slowly,  but I did get some reactions.  My boss told me I looked like a gay forest ranger.  My Dad thought it was cool and wanted to do it buy my mother told him she would leave him if he did.  My wife doesnt' like it but she don't fight it.  My pastor's eyebrows went up and he said,  Oh My.  I started growing it back and people started telling me how much better I looked with hair;  so I shaved it slick again.  That was about two years ago and I havn't gone back.  I like it,  I like to feel the pellow under my head.  I work at keeping it slick and with a bit of HeadLube glossy so it doesnt look like I'm trying to be lazy.

I agree; it was hardest to face the people who knew me well, but gettin out amongst people who didnt know me gave me real confidence.  When you're sly everyone notices when you walk into a room or a shop or a bar, because its still pretty unusual when alls said and done, and it's a good ego boost.   

It's a bit more disappointing now that more people are used to me bein sly, because I don't get quite the reactions I used to, but its still good fun!
