shaving the dome vs. shaving the face
« on: January 10, 2008, 02:38:39 AM »
hello fellow chrome domes....i know that a majority of us R very particular about shaving the dome by using hot water on the dome to open the pores, shave cream/gel, quality razor, followed by a cold water rinse and an ice cube rub to close the pores, towel dry, & air dry, then apply either witch hazel or aloe vera gel or anytype of aftershave lotion.  now.... big question....do u use the same routine 4 your face?

i'll start: no.... i don't use a cold water rinse or an ice cube rub on my face.  however...i follow the same routine except 4 the cold water rinse and the ice cube rub.  so... how 'bout u?  do u have the exact routine 4 your dome and face OR is there a difference?  what's your story/routine?

Good post Mel. I had actually thought about this the other day.

I am the same 2 you. I do not use a cold water rise afterwards. However when face shaving I like to use an alcohol based aftershave(Old Spice). It burns like hell but it has been something I've done since I first started shaving.

Great post, Mel.  I'm all for keeping it simple.  I use the same routine for the face and dome.  Except that I have recently gone back to shaving my face with and my Braun electric.  I was just getting too many nicks and cuts with my quattro.

Do you find the alcohol content in that numbs any afterburn you've aquired whilst shaving?

Same routine for face and dome, except I use the HeadBlade only on my dome.  :D

Same routine, same weapon--Fusion Power--, same shave cream--Headslick, same prep--baby oil, same after shave balm--Nivea.  Only difference, 10% Benzoyl Peroxide to scalp after cold water rinse and towel dry.  Also, the loofa sponge pad in the shower first on the scalp & face.

Same routine and the same tools (Gillette Good News blades, KoS oil, cold water rinse, Bald Guyz gel on everything that got shaved).

It seems like I work alot harder on my dome than my face.

On my face I use Gillette throw away razors, cheap Barbasol shave cream, no cold rinse, and an alcohol based aftershave.  I have no problems at all with razor burn or anything else.

My head gets the deluxe (and expensive) treatment though...Just like the rest of the guys

After a good cleaning (and exfoliating 2-3 times a week) I proceed to shave. I am a shower shaver so this all takes place in the shower.

Head -  small amount of headslick brought to a lather with a shaving brush, headblade, rinse.

face - Williams shaving soap applied with a brush and either use the old single blade gillette unless I am in a hurry then I use the quattro.

rinse whole head and face with cool water.

apply Mary Kay after shave gel for men to head and face

apply headlube to skull.

done.

Well I dont have a very thick beard on my face so quite often I will shave without any lubricant. I suppose the stinging from the alcohol  does have a sort of numbing effect.

Ditto! Since I started taking care of the face like the dome, my neck has improved. It used to be very easily rashed

Yeah, its great when I have the time. It is really a luxury for me to be able to take my time and really get a perfect shave. The DE gets a way better shave than the quattro but it takes me about 15 mins to get it nice.

As I get better at it I will use it more but right now I use it about 1 - 2x per week.

I use same routine for both - I love the ice cube rub on the neck - really helps with irritation.  JDog you got some cajones man - no lubricant on the neck/face?  I would be crying in a minute  :'(

I don't think I will EVER find a solution to my facial shaves! I've tried the mach 3, the fusion, the xtreme 3, the quatro, the disposables, and the electrics...all irritated skins and shaving causes acne to break out. Ive used aveeno, gillette, edge, sensitive this and that cream, and now headslick. Still does nothing to help my face, though it is mostly my neck. I just cannot find a way to make shaving my face work for me. If there was a Nair for the Face, I would buy it in a second no matter the price!
