The Weekend Syndrome
« on: October 22, 2007, 07:20:51 PM »
My shaving schedule usually goes out the window on the weekends.  On Saturdays, I sleep in a little later, then sit around and enjoy my breakfast before getting started on chores around the house and yard.  I usually don't get around to shaving until late morning or early afternoon.  Or if I'm going out on Saturday night, I'll postpone the shave until evening.  As a result, I usually don't shave at all on Sundays.  By Sunday night, I'm feeling pretty scruffy, but the payoff is that near-perfect shave that I get on Monday mornings.  After I shaved with a fresh blade this morning, my head felt like it had never had any hair on it.

I have really noticed that my weekend shaves are twice as good as my weekdays.  I believe that the reason is that i shave later in the morning and probably take a little more time with it.  My week day shaves barely carry me through mid-day. :(

I knew I'd be taken out to the woodshed for that  ;D  I do know what you mean -- when I was still on the fence, I used to notice certain sly guys that I'd see on the train every morning.  And if anyone ever showed up with any stubble on their domes, I'd be so disappointed in them.   >:(

I'm fair-haired so I can get away with occasionally skipping a shave.  No one really notices, except me, of course.  Won't do it on a weekday or if I have to be somewhere on the weekend where I need to look my best.  Must be a good sly ambassador.  But on a Sunday when all I'm doing is going to the gym, walking the dogs and doing grocery shopping, it's worth skipping a day to get that extra smooth Monday morning shave.

yeah if i've got nothing on the docket for the day i'll skip it, too.  or just wear my favorite brewers baseball cap to the grocery store.  i do find that shaving every day is nicer on my skin but doesn't provide the closer shave i get skipping days.

I never go without a shave but I wait longer in the day on my off days and like KC said I seem to take longer and get into it more.

I have much better shaves on the off days

I know some people shave twice a day to stay extra-smooth, but the few times I tried to do that, I couldn't get my scalp any smoother with the second shave -- probably because the hair hadn't grown out enough to be grabbed by the blade.  What's more, I'd always get a lousy shave the next morning.  But if I shave later in the day or skip a day entirely, the next shave is always perfectly smooth.  I shaved at 6:30 this morning.  It's now 11:18 pm and I am just beginning to get a few rough spots.

Being rather new to slyness, I've only skipped a Saturday and part of a Sunday once.  It made me crazy when I felt that stubble Sunday night, so I motored upstairs and shaved it right off, unable to make it until Monday morning.

I definitely shave later on Saturdays and Sundays, though, and do take my time as opposed to playing beat the clock during the week.  I actually look forward to a nice leasurely shave on the weekend ...

the stubble makes me nuts as well. thats why I like my off day shaves they seem to last longer than the ones on work days, I think its the "beat the clock" shaves before work

Being a single Sly, I have to keep it smooth. My usual routine is friday after work and dinner, I take the rejuvinating shower and shave the hit a local hot spot, but if I am staying home I still keep the routine. Saturday turns into a double shave as well, in the am when I wake up...or noon if I was out till 5am, then again Saturday evening around 6pm. Sundays are usually a 1 shave day in the am until monday morning.
Gotta keep it Sly for the Lay-Days  8)

No skipping days here, just because it's a weekend.  Can't stand to be seen without the total sly going on.  Like some of the other bros, I may shave a little later in the day on weekends if I get involved in some home project, but never leave the house with stubble, no way.

I try to be as diligent as I can upon maintaing the Sly look. Usually I was a twice a day headshaver. There is nothing more I hate than stubble and shadow. However with a little boy and working early shifts at work I have been skipping a day here and there which I know is blasphemy

D@^^.....But I do find that I get a much smoother and better shave as like RazorX says, there is more hair for the blade to grab onto.

Walking out the door with a dome that is smooth as a waxed bowling ball is such a great feeling. Really adds a bounce to my step in the morning. Another joy of being Sly O0 8)

I noticed that shaving immediately after getting up in the morning, i.e., shower then shave, results in more stubble early on in the day than getting up, going to the gym, then shower & shave.  I think it has to do with some minimal water retention during sleep and it takes the body a little while to "trim" down the water.  Also the workout removes some water even with drinking water during exercise.  Just a thought.

I dont shave my head on days I dont shave my face.

Unless I am going out or something I will use the weekend to take a break.

I like to give my head a good scrubbing and let it rest on occasion, keeps my scalp in good repair.
