John, try it this way; save the shaving of the dome for last, as it will help to soften the stubble as much as possible. Use the Headslick, or KoS Alphagel (really stays put).
If you do this you shouldn't have to worry about soap in the eyes, and as I say the Alphagel stays where you put it. At this point you're only concerned with shaving the dome.
I usually stand with the water off my head, on my shoulders or back. It won't take too much more of your time once you get into the groove.
Try to lather up while you are finishing rinsing below the head(on your shoulders, guys, lol).
This usually helps save some time and gives the lather a chance to do it's job. Maybe it can work for you, let me know.
