Oh s&%t, I'm sly
« on: March 19, 2016, 12:24:19 PM »
I went to the barber and had it done yesterday. I threw away all the hair products. I was relieved/excited. When I got home I got a better look at myself and I now I feel like puking. I look balder than I had anticipated. Honestly I had hoped to have more of a hairline but I guess you can still see it, eh? I'm not ready to face my coworkers in two weeks.. On the plus side, it took me only a few minutes to get ready today, which was amazing.

Dude, it looks good on you.
That puking sensation you feel is nervousness and surprise. And as you get more used to seeing yourself completely shaven, it will dissipate. You've got to get used to seeing yourself without hair.

You've taken a brave step in getting rid of everything - not just your hair and various products but also your perception of how you view yourself. It takes a little time to get used to. You also have to give others around you a little time to adjust - it may feel like you're getting a lot of reactions all at once, but the people at work, those who you socialise with etc also have to witness the new you and take it in. Their reactions will determine how you feel about them too, don't forget that. But you've done it - and that's great!

It has got to be 100 times better than worrying - it certainly looks 100 times better. And you'll probably recognise that sooner than you think.

I hope you have a great holiday.
John

Going sly for the first time is a dramatic change and it takes time to adjust to how you look.  Give yourself a little time and soon being sly will look and feel completely normal.

As to your co-workers, yes, you will get some reactions, but by and large everyone quickly gets past it and gets on with their busy lives.  I went sly on a Saturday and went to work Monday.  Yes, I was anxious about reactions, but it really went fine. That was five years ago and the other day two co-workers said they couldn't even remember what I looked like with hair anymore.

Trust our advice, in the grand scheme of life, the transition to sly is very quick and painless.

Calm down, it looks good.  You will get accustomed to seeing your reflection in the mirror.  I suggest you take your time off to "expand" your facial hair style to something a bit bigger than your current narrow goatee.  Go full beard if you can.  It helps take the focus from your head and it goes well with a sly head.

You have a nice shaped head, nice and clear. You look good, just get some color on the noggin. I agree with Slybeard. I'm not a fan of the soul patch, a goatee or beard would look bada$$.

You'll be used to the look in a couple of weeks.

It looks good, especially when compared to the other pictures in your previous post(s).

I may be wrong here, but I think part of the puking feeling is more based on what you think others' reactions may be more than looking at yourself in the mirror. Sure, there is going to be a shock factor, and sure you will get various comments, but after a few days, your stomach will settle and it will be a non-issue for your friends (some of which probably knew you were balding but just didn't want to say anything). As far as the facial hair, many will say grow a beard or goatee, but I would wear the facial hair style that you feel most comfortable with. Good luck and welcome to the sly family!

I'll repeat what everyone else is saying here, in that it looks really good. It looks weird to you now because of the shock of not having any hair. Give it a week or so, and you'll get used to it and realize that you can pull it off just fine.

Give it the 30 day test. Then you can make a fair judgment if you will like the new look. Almost all of us had a adjustment period. The look is good on you.
