Should I do it?

Hello all - Long time lurker. To make a long story short...
- I'm in my mid 30's with very thick hair on my head except in the crown area where I have about 15% coverage.
- I use concealers to cover my bald spot since the contrast between my thick hair and that area looks ridiculous.
- I can conceal it well, BUT (1) I'm tired of the routine, (2) I hate that I'm so insecure that I have to use concealers, and (3) I'm tired of dealing with the stress.
I don't know if my round face will look good with a shaved head (I suspect it won't), but I'd really love to just bite the bullet and do it. My concern is that I don't have the "it'll just grow back option" since I've used concealers and most people close to me don't know about my big bald spot. If I shave it, it's a long-term commitment since I would look silly during the growing-in phase if I changed my mind. Any advice/tips/thoughts?

Well, we all pretty much love being bald, so it's hard for us to tell you, "No, don't do it!" You may easily find you never want hair again. I'll leave it at that.

I wonder if you're ready to shave your head if you are afraid to show your bald spot. How about starting with a high and tight flattop. The crown area is usually cut very short. Then you can go shorter.

Fair point. Maybe subconsciously I just want a little push. I can't seem to get myself to take the plunge even though I see a ton of benefits.

@reddog, I think there's some truth to that. My hope has been that I have enough hair in the crown so that a big bald spot wouldn't be obvious if I have some stubble on top. Sometimes I take a step back and realize how ridiculous it is. I'm a grown man with a family, home, and job and I get stressed about something so silly.

Of course the answer here will be that it will look great shaved. We see very few that try the 30 days of shaving smooth that do not like it, it just takes some time to adjust. I would venture to guess that more people know about your thin crown than you think. For those that do not, it is not unusual for guys to be BBC these days. So I suggest you give it a try.

Look, you are obviously unhappy so what have you to lose except your hair! Give it a go! We all love the bald look on here and once you go bald you will love it!
30 day rule is a must as you need to give it a proper try. Good luck

Round faces look just fine shaved -- that's just an excuse to delay further. If you're asking the question, you're ready to act on it. There's no down-side; if, in the unlikely event you are unhappy with it, it grows back, and much more quickly than many of us would like.

You clearly have the itch to shave the dome so just go for it. You won't be happy until you do. Then the 30 day rule applies.

Search for 'I should have done it sooner' here on SBG and find all the guys who look back and wonder what they worried about.
The shaved head works well. It's not out of style. Just do it and be confident in that. And if you don't want to go all in one step, drop down a clipper size month by month until you are at no guard ... then break out the razor.

Although I'm about 30 years older than you, my story is quite similar. I had a pretty good head of hair except for the crown, too. After a long time "agonizing" over it, I went from that full head of hair to shaved in about 2 weeks. I really love it; my wife is getting used to it. But it's so great not to have a combover, however small it was. I'm committed to the 30 day challenge. Even if I let it grow after that, I will never let it get anywhere as long again.
Comments have ranged from "Why did you do that?" to "Looks great!"
I'd say, just do it. I agree that probably more people than you know have noticed your thin spot. And, so what?
Good luck!

As others have said, try it and try the 30 day rule, if you don't like it after that you can always grow it back
