Shallow hal
« on: January 16, 2015, 03:35:12 PM »
Hello everyone, half year lurker here on your nice forum.
Not really an interesting first post at all but i thought why not ask for your opinions instead of debating in my head all day long.

So I've got a naturally far back hairline. Meaning it starts sort of behind of where the forehead takes a curve.
This has always bugged me a lot, but for the past 2 years i've experienced a bit of rescission at the temples, which really accents it, including this i have very kinky curly hair which stands up instead of laying down so there's no real way to hide it.

I know this is stupid and minor damage in comparison to what kind of real problems people have, but i just feel really uncomfortable with this, to the point where it i let it control my actions, in terms of not going out, being self conscious and having trouble being calm and myself. Even when i manage to get it somewhat togetherl, i just hate the way i look when i look in the mirror.

It got to a point where i got pissed off and shaved it all off with clippers, down to a zero(1.5 years ago).
I dont remember how i felt about it back then but i remember that when my hair line started to grow out again and it was at like 1 inches i really hated it and wore a hat all day every day for months.

So now im at that same point where i still haven't gotten over it and i only go out and feel ok if i manage to somehow hide it under my hair, which doesnt always work, and when it works i am overly protective of not screwing it up somehow.
Just to add some more drama; i also dont work out or go swimming(which id like to) just because my hair would be out of my control and my weird looking hairline would be visible.

SO WHY HAVEN'T YOU SHAVED ALREADY!?!

Yes, the only reason i havent shaved is that i would be terrified if it didnt suit me and i had to grow my hair back with my hairline all exposed 24/7, or having to wear a hat for months again. i also heard it makes your nose bigger and due to a broken nose i have a bigger one.
Just a side note; i would love to have a clean shaven or 0 clipper look if it worked with my head shape and all.
Shaving is not something i would dread.

To make all of this even more embarrassing i even got pictures for you!
Ive gotten so attached to all of this crap that i cant even any longer objectively look at myself.
Got no pictures of a side view but i think in the second picture you can tell fairly well what im talking about.

Thanks for taking your time to read or answer.

Hi, Ignore.  Your hairline is only starting to recede.  You look fine with a full head of hair, and you also look good with a close buzz.  Of course, most of us would encourage you to shave it all off, just to see what it looks like.  Growing it back is no big deal; you've already shown your hairline by buzzing it down, and I don't think that anyone is keeping track.  Just do what feels right for you.  It's your hair/head.

Welcome, Ignore.

It sounds like you buzzed it down to a zero and were only unhappy when it grew back to 1 inch.  Unless I'm misunderstanding what you meant, it seems like you could buzz it back down and keep it that way and be happy.  It looked good in the pic.

Dude.... Unless you dye it pink, no one will stare.... No one will comment and no one will notice you..... When you next go out, you will see a lot of guys with buzzed hair, or shaved.... Do you see loads of people staring and pointing and laughing? No.... But in your head that is what people are doing to you..... But they aren't..... No  one cares about your hair, or lack of it...... Stop worrying about nothing.... Go live your life.... Stop wearing a hat.... Shave if you want.... Or don't shave..... But don't start living your life around what your hair does or doesn't look like.... What are you comparing it to? Perfect thick luxurious hair? Hardly anyone has that.... Certainly no one on here! If you wear a hat all the time it's like carrying a sign saying "I'm hiding something and I'm insecure, please stare at me and make me feel more insecure"  try shaving if you want.... Then there is nothing to worry about.... Or don't.... Either way..... Just enjoy being you.... You only get one go at life, don't waste it worrying about something so unimportant.

Hi Ignore

I can relate to your situation 100%. Everything you have written I can relate too and have had and still do,have those thoughts about my hair/ head. Reading Geeman's commments he is bang on the money. You need to live your life and accept the features which you have been given. Geeman has also given me a bit of positivity from that post.

From looking at your photos I think that you look way much better buzzed than having the hair the length in the other pics.
Looking at pic number 1, is your hand acting as a marker to show you where the top of your head is? If that is what it is doing then it is giving a false indication of the top of your head. Don't worry I used to do that all the time and compare my head size with other people. Like Bruce Willis, Mark Forster to name a few. In fact I still do, it sort of acts like some sort of reassurance for me.

I am not sly but getting closer to it by buzzing down my hair lower and lower.

Walk tall and all the best.

Hi Ignore,
After reading your post, I was surprised seeing your photos. I was expecting something so much different. Your hair looks fine in those pictures!

But I get it. What we see when we look at ourselves in the mirror can be way different than what others see. I do remember having a really hard time looking at my reflection because my hair was receding, balding, thinning in such a crazy way. I will tell you clipper shaving my head solved that problem (after I got used to it). I no longer hated looking in the mirror and finally liked what I saw. If you are unhappy with your hair, I definitely recommend shaving your head.

And I think a shaved head suits all guys. At least it's preferable to a balding head.

You deserve to do the things you like to do like swimming and working out. Don't let how you feel about your hair ruin your life. Try the shaved head and give it the thirty days.
Bronx bald and bred!

I think you hairline looks totally normal in every single picture.  I don't see what the concern is at all.  So have whatever hair you want.

I agree 100% with this post, I was like this.  I wouldn't grow shave my head or grow a beard because of what others thought.  I eventually did both though, and I am now at the point where I am a lot happier with what I see in the mirror each day.

Enjoy being you, if you want to shave your head and you like how it looks, then do it.  I think it looks great.
First started shaving my head on the 9th October 2014

Thank you all for your kind words.
To the ones that say i look fine with hair and cant see an issue, i cant agree but i wont either try to further talk about it, theres no point, for me its as clear as the day and night(is that a saying?).
I appreciate all your responses.
I think im going to shave it off sometime this week, i will just have to build myself up to it.
thanks
