Oil recommendations?
« on: December 16, 2014, 12:24:41 PM »
Hey!  Question for for y'all.  I recently tried using an oil on my scalp and had a fantastic result.  I got the closest head shave I've ever had.  Right now it's about 2:30 PM and it feels like it normally does by about 10:30.  I've tried a scalp conditioning oil from Doterra and coconut oil.  Both worked great.  Really makes shaving more comfortable and make me nice and smooth.

Now to the question:  Can you folks recommend a good pre-shave oil that I can buy over the counter?  What I'm using works well, but it's always good to get opinions from you all.

I use shave secret from Walmart....less than $4 a bottle and last about four months if you shave everyday and longer if you don't

I've used Taconic Unscented as well.  I liked it better than Shave Secret as I'm not crazy about the menthol or the clove.

I used Shave Secret as well.  Only one I've used so far based on the recommendations of others here.

Shave Secret is good, but I like Pacific Shaving Oil the best.

2 parts castor oil, 1 part olive oil, 15+ drops essential oil (I use sandalwood) works great!

Based on the recommendations of my sly brethren I went and picked up some Shave Secret.  Works great!  It gets me smoother than ever and leaves my scalp soft and in good condition.

Thanks for all your input gentlemen!

Shave Secret here as well.  Not everyday, since my scalp isn't that thick with follicles.   However, if I haven't shaved for 2-3 days, it is a must-have prep.   Can't beat the price, and I like the machine oil smell, too!

I'd like to try some different ones, like Art of Shaving, but just can't see forking over the $$.

Uh-oh.  I think I might be allergic to the Shave Secret.  My scalp started turning red like a rash.  It didn't hurt at all and went away after a few days.  I've tried coconut oil, which was ok, but if you need to re-wet the area it just washes the oil away.  My girlfriend had me try lavender oil this morning and it worked ok.  I'll give that a go for a few more days and report in.  I might try the baby oil, AJ.  Thanks for that.

Sorry to hear about the allergic reaction.  I haven't had any, but you know yourself the best.  I it's not working, surely you will find one that works without the adverse effects.  Good luck to you!
