Hey guys...alopecia areata.
« on: March 21, 2014, 06:08:49 PM »
Hey all...I recently learned I have alopecia areata. Now I'm not thinking of shaving my head (if my alopecia wants me to be completely bald it will do that for me). I just post here because this is another place where people know about hair problems. My AA isn't the classic patchy kind, but diffuse. I'm pretty sure my anxiety disorders have contributed a lot...neuroimmunology and all that... But my question is this...can AA cause a receding hairline? I have bitemporal recession and am trying to figure out if I have AA + MPB or just AA (for now...MPB could still be down the line). My hair looks fine when grown out, which is probably a blessing, but when really short the AA is a lot more apparent.

I will probably get corticosteroid injections...but more importantly I NEED TO WORK ON MY ANXIETY.

Now here is one of my temples:

Do I have MPB + AA, or just AA?

Mate I'm no expert but the hairline looks fine to me!... I empathise with your anxiety and can only recommend remembering what really counts doesn't lie on the surface. cheers

I think you need to pose this question to the doctor who diagnosed your AA.

True, but I won't be seeing her for another few weeks and am impatient.

Yeah its funny how were going through the same thing. Except for the anxiety part. Im also 20 and I also have alopecia.  I had some patches on my legs a while back.  They injected stuff on my hairline but it didn't really do anything.  I'm not too sure if my hairline is receding because of that or if i have early MPB.  Im going to shave my head regardless soon though so it doesn't matter  ;D.  You actually look pretty cool with a shave head lol,  shave it lower and get fit thats what I'm doing.  If you want to keep fighting for it go for it maybe you'll get you hairline back who knows. But honestly Life's to short to be worrying about your hairline all the time.

Not sure about the AA and the receding hairline (I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night lol)... but one thing to ponder over is to organize a fundraiser/charity event where people shave their heads to raise awareness and money to help understand and fight the condition.

That way you know you're not alone and maybe someone else will think the same way :)
