TV Poll
« on: January 21, 2014, 03:43:02 PM »
There are a lot of choices for receiving TV these days. How do you get your TV? ...  and tell us why you made the choice that you did. You can make (2) choices in the poll.

I had Dish Network for years and then last January I looked at my bill and thought about what I got for that money.... reruns of Food Network, Honey Boo-Boo on TLC, etc. .... and I decide to get rid of paid TV and save some serious cash.

Cancelling Dish saved me $88 a month.... that's almost $1000 a year. I put an over the air antenna on my roof and ran the coax into the coax that previously connected the Dish. I out a booster on the line and Viola! I had about 20 over the air channels, all in FREE HD, on all my TVs.
I then bought a couple Roku streaming devices and hooked them to the two main TVs. I get Netflix and HuluPlus thru the streamers at $8 per month each (still leaves me about $850 a year to the good).

None of us have missed the Dish even a little bit and we've actually watched MORE good shows than we ever watched on Dish.

Two weeks ago I bought a Chromecast for $35. This device allows you to stream from your smart phone, tablet, etc. to any TV with an HDMI port. Simply plug in the Chromecast and follow the very simple instructions and you can stream, Netflix, YouTube, etc. right to your TV. pretty cool.

Sounds like a good solution but I would miss having access to live sports and cable news.

DVD and VHS.  Don't watch the TV options mentioned in the poll.

Rara avis that Ming is, he humbly suggests there is a room for the category: "Does not have TV."  And not for close to twenty years.  Oh, there is a TV set, but it's just for watching DVDs on.

The time that Ming used to waste on TV he now wastes on the computer.

We are AT&T U-Verse with Netflicks over the blu-ray and Wii.

Netflicks actually gets more use than anything.

yep, there was an antenna in the attic of the house I bought, hooked it up, and I get 23 HD channels free, and I stream Netflix.
Bald by choice, and loving it!

DirecTV here....Former Cox Cable customer but got rid of it when the ex left....The NFL Sunday Ticket is well worth the extra $35 a month given that I play fantasy football and parlays. At one time, the signal would go out in bad weather, but even during hurricane season, my DirecTV held up the entire time. My bill excluding the Sunday Ticket is $113 for five TV's (I was paying Cox $287 for phone, internet and TV), but I save about $80 per month since leaving Cox for everything despite using different companies. Go figure.
