Being bald in the winter

Being bald in New England in the winter can be harsh.  But days like this make you forget how flippin' frigid it can be.

I walk around this reservoir every day at lunch no matter what the weather.  Today I looked like Nanook of the North, but the beauty and peacefulness outweighed how stupid I looked.

It is still getting into the 80's here.  So much for being able to have the windows open for free air-conditioning.

Last week we got down to -26 with the wind chill. I was up on the open cab tractor, tending the cows and doing farm work. We are finally supposed to get above 30 this week for a couple days, then back to below 0. On most days, I have to wear 2 sets of thermals/long johns and socks in addition to a normal shirt, hoody, jacket, scarf, and hat.

Nice pictures, Mike!...Ironically it has been around 40 degrees at night here....I don't have a problem with winter weather, I just don't like it when it's 77 degrees at noon and 37 degrees at midnight.

South Texas hit the freezing mark a few days ago. Thankfully, we now are back up in fifties as we should be.

Mangosink - I am in Manchester, CT - near Hartford - probably about a 90 minute drive from you.  And I agree.  This head is is mostly covered outdoors!

I work indoors - your post shuts me right up- I have no right complaining about the cold! Can't even imagine what 26 below feels like!

It is still getting into the 80's here.  So much for being able to have the windows open for free air-conditioning. 

My in-laws are probably in Heaven.  They're in Hudson and NEVER set the thermostat below 80. AND the windows are always shut in case the air conditioning goes on.  The last time we stayed with them I had an anxiety attack.  I felt like I was asphyxiating.  It was like a Seinfeld episode - me sleeping naked on their pullout bed in the livingroom as my mother-in-law comes in to announce breakfast was ready.  Even that sight didn't convince her to turn on the A/C.  Needless to say, on the next visit, we rented a house for the week.

Y'all come down to North Carolina. I almost worked in the garden today, so sunny and warm, but now 22 or something overnight as it's clear today. BRRR.

I wear my down vest (left over from Alaska days), all morning in the office, and my hat is on in the office, as it takes about 4 hours for the heat to come up to 'normal' each morning.  Afternoon's are nice and warm and the down and hat comes off.

Mike (in Washington)... -26 is crazy.  I have nothing to compare that to (other than a walk-in freezer...lol.


Mike E.P., you in-laws sound like my wife's 90 year-old grandmother.  I can't stand being in her home because she has to have it so warm in there all the time.  The hard thing is that she doesn't really understand her thermostat anymore and calls us to drive across town to change it for her.
