He's Growing Back His Horseshoe !?!?!?!?!

There is a guy I see in passing.  We have never spoken, only nodded, so I don't know him, really. 

When I first saw him, his hair was buzzed with probably a zero guard (pretty Sly looking).   

I have noticed that he is letting it grow back out, and yesterday was rockin' the full horseshoe.  It was short, but definitely a classic horseshoe with a few sprigs of hair on top.    This is several weeks worth of growth, so I don't think he is just being lazy. 

 


Have you guys ever noticed anybody going backwards like this?

I did a few years ago (yes, I said it), as an attempt to appease the Lovely Mrs. Schro. In all honesty, I've been told I look OK with a tight horseshoe, and I don't mind the look. I tried all sorts of topical remedies to deal with my sebhorreic dermatitis. My wife appreciated the effort, but realized the relief I get by keep the scalp hair-free.

When it came time to shave the scalp, I had each of my kids use the clippers and buzz half my head. When they did that, they saw the flakes flying off. To which they said, "ewwww, gross".

I suppose the horseshoe vs sly doesn't matter much when one isn't very good looking to begin with.

I don't think the guy looks bad with the horseshoe... we see them all the time and have gotten used to it.

I just was wondering how he could not think he looked better shaving it off?    Why settle for good when you can look great... and with such ease?   lol.

Some people consider daily shaving to be an onerous chore. Or the guy's wife or girlfriend may not like a shaved scalp.

They must be the ones that go to the barber and have their "fringe" trimmed around the edges and "tidied up".

My partner actually prefers a short buzz (very short) versus full sly. So every now and again, I'll let it grow out a little for the winter. The last time I did this was the winter of 2010, I think.

I don't mind a really shortly cropped horseshoe. I think that the problem is that it gets out of control really quickly and most guys who don't shave will not take the time to keep a horseshoe properly buzzed, and so it starts to get that bozo effect really quickly.

I've done this when I have had surgery on the noggin...but I have kept it close with it either tapered or with a block cut at the neck.

I have a couple friends that claim to be die-hard bald guys like I am, but they always grow their hair back in the winter because it's cold. My response to that, is that if you had a full head of hair, it might make a difference but since you have the toilet seat look going on, you just look funny and cold instead of Sly and cold. This morning while I was on the tractor at work, it was 11* F. I just had my basic thermals/hoodie/beanie/gloves on and wasn't even phased by the cold and I had just shaved before heading in. I don't think I could revert back to hair if I was balding

Although I personally like it, the smooth look is not for every MPB guy.

Frankly, I don't see anything "wrong" with the horseshoe - unless he uses it for a combover.

A guy at my church was sly for at least five years and recently went back to a horseshoe, with thin hair on top.  He keeps is at about a 1/2" buzz.  I have never asked him why the change, but I am curious since he was sly for so long.

Slybeard, that is my question.... should I walk up to this stranger and ask him why?  Other people seem to have no problem asking us why we shaved our heads...lol.
