Rate my shaving routine- HELP
« on: November 20, 2013, 03:19:42 AM »
23 year old guy here and I went from a shaggy head of hair in early August. Now I'm 100% sly It took about a month for me not to look like a cancer patient. Never in my 2 decades of existence has my hair been shorter than an inch! Now I look your normal bald dude that exudes confidence.

However there were some huge learning curves, I'm very stubborn and refuse to take good advice that's not my own. About my 3rd time shaving clean I cut a knot in my head about 1-2 inches long, it was a huge cut but it didn't bleed badly. I never learned how to shave properly before, I would do long aggressive strokes hoping to get it over with. Now that I know it's all short/ light strokes (letting the blade do the work) My normal day goes like this

6:30 AM Wake up, small bowl of cereal, glass of half OJ/ water (I will not change this part of my life, nothing else looks appetizing in the AM)
7-7:30AM Quick email check, let the dog run around in the forest
8:00AM Heavy weights, heavy meal and build supplements at the ready
8:35AM Pre shower hot water, followed by full shave (head, face, pits if needed, *****if needed)
9:00AM Off to work (welder)

The rest of my day is usually very unexciting, but I choose to live this way because of $$$

I use a FUSION power 5 razor, which are very overpriced, recently bought the 18 pck at costco for over 50$!! Granted these things last a good 4-5 shaves, still! I'm not sold on the headblade, I hate ordering things online, and there's no stores that carry them around here. Can anyone convince me on the headblade? I know I'm doing it wrong because shaving my head takes almost 20 minutes, it's easy, but it's supposed to be easier!

Welcome! As a first time headshaver, it's going to require some experimentation. But if you really want to save money, clean your blades out and soak them in baby oil. This will give you an extra four to six shaves per blade (more than that if you use them for the face only). Also, invest in some Shave Secret preshave oil from WalMart. This mixed in with whatever cream/gel/soap that you use will make for smoother shaves. If you check out some of the other threads, there are plenty of tips and tools to help you get better. As for the HeadBlade, I have one myself, but use it only on days when I need a quicker headshave. When I have more time, I use a DE which I find gives me good smooth shaves. Good luck!
Even when the d is removed, the devil is still evil.

Thanks Harry!

I read something about rinsing blades out in rubbing alcohol.. Might have to give that a try! There is no baby oil in the house ATM so yes, we are experimenting

Guess I'm out on the HB, but I will do a comprehensive video trial if they send me one.. FREE

I'm only getting 4-5 shaves per blade, which is roughly $100 per year just on blades. So thanks for the tip I clearly have a lot to learn.
