First time shave, redness and irritation/dandruff?
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:08:37 PM »
hey everyone, glad I found this awesome place! I shaved my head yesterday for the first time and it went pretty well. The only issue I have is the redness on the back of my head. At first I figured it would just be irritation from shaving but it doesn't burn unless I scratch it and I have do have a history of dandruff. I had thought my dandruff cleared up about 4 days before I shaved and didn't think it was still present on my scalp. I shaved with a 2 blade disposable with a pivot head which I don't do on my face but I did my normal shave routine the same otherwise so I have a feeling that the redness may not be so much from razor burn.

Here is a link to the photos I took to the back of my head: http://www.flickr.com/photos/105162889@N03/

If this is indeed dandruff as the redness has not gone down since yesterday what can I do to make it look better? I want to go out tonight but this is sort of holding me back. I put ice on the back of my head yesterday and put on some Vitamin E oil as I thought it was irritation at first and that usually works for my face if i d get irritation but it did not work this time. Any suggestions on how to make the redness go away?

Try Cortizone cream for redness.

Looks sore. I personally find a  2 blade can stress my head. I went for the Hydro 5

Thanks for the help guys, I ended up using some crushed up aspirin in water to reduce the redness, I did realize that it was probably due to irritation. I find that if I use a 5 blade it irritates my skin, I always find fewer blades better for my skin which is why I shave my face with a DE safety razor. I shaved my head again last night and applied a little more olive oil as a preshave and things went smoothly, I got a really close shave and no irritation on the back of my neck after a few hours. I am glad it was not any remaining issues from dandruff and hopefully that will not come back.

Also I would like to at some point try to attempt an ATG shave on my head so I can get the true baby but smoothness on my scalp, how long should I wait/how many shaves would you all recommend so I do not end up with lots and lots of irritation due to my skin not being tough enough.

Could this redness be due to a allergic reaction to cream or the otherpossibility is not being gentle withyourself?

I have had through being mean and not using a fresh blade
