Finally shaved my head last night . . .
« on: October 12, 2013, 10:07:34 PM »
Greetings, gentlemen . . .

This is my first post.  It's great to have found this online community.  After months of debate, I finally went scorched-earth on my receding hairline and shaved my head last night.  My wife sheared my head with Remington clippers, and I finished the job with a Headblade ATX.  What can I say?  My wife loves the look, and I'm happy (surprisingly so) with the end result . . . though it still takes a bit of getting used to when I look in the mirror!

My question to the veteran sly guys on the board is this: Do you use a blade to maintain the sly look, or is there a decent electric razor that does the trick?

Cheers,

S.

Welcome to the board and congratulations on taking the plunge.  Good that your wife is supportive.

Most here would suggest a razor gives a smoother feel and look.  Just remember the 30 day rule to get used to the new look.

Post a photo when you can.

Thanks, Nuts!  I'll be posting a picture soon . . . and I'm sticking to the 30-day rule!

Cheers,

S.

I've never found an electric razor that can come anywhere close to the even and smooth shave of a regular razor. I prefer the Gillette Mach III over the headblade due to ease of use however that's personal preference. Once you get the routine down, it's actually easier and quicker than shaving with electric as I always found that no matter what electric razor used, you have to go over it several times to get it even.

I second Jarhead's statements.  I actually find electric shavers more irritating than a blade.  Never cared for HeadBlade either.  Mach III has always worked as well or better. . .though I am delving into DE shaving for my head now.  But for you, one step at a time.

I have never used an electric razor to do my head (had so my face).  I would suspect it would be more irritating and not get as smooth.  I use Magnum M5 which I discovered on this forum. Like the Gillette products but half the cost.

Always use razors. Never electric. 40 years ago I had an electric for my face shaving. That's what dad always used.  Learned about razors in college. Switched and never went back as the razor is smoother.

Never tried electric on my head. Could not imagine it would be smooth enough.

Welcome.

Congratulations, ScribeGuy.

Like the gentlemen before me have said, the blade is the only way to get a really smooth shave.

Welcome, Scribe Guy! While there are clippers that give a bald appearance to the naked eye, the smoothness that most guys seek can only be achieved with a razor. That said, some people prefer clipper shaves and the peach fuzz feel, and there's nothing wrong with that. Check out the threads for various methods, and you may find one that suits you best. Good luck!

For years, I've used clippers because I liked having a shadow of hair. Recently I have been periodically shaving completely bald with a razor. With the clippers, I needed to use a hand mirror to get to the back and I often missed spots and usually had my wife touch me up. With a razor and shaving completely - much easier. I can feel where I need to shave and if I missed a spot. And the activity of shaving and the feeling is a lot more pleasurable.
