« on: October 03, 2013, 08:28:23 PM »
I'm currently using gillette shaving foam it works pretty good but I'm thinking of switching to shaving soap because I assume its all natural. Which do you guys/gals use and which do u prefer? Also which is better to uses for closer shaves DE razors or the 3 blade razors? Been ball for a month now trying to find the best for me

Hi Lo:  Without question... buy a quality shave soap with shaving brush.  I get the best shaves with quality shave soaps.  There are many but here are my favorites.

Mike's Natural Soaps (www.mikesnaturalsoaps.com)

Mytic Water Soap (www.mystic4men.com)

Barrister and Mann (www.barristerandmann.com)

Cella (You can get this from Amazon)

Soap if definitely better because it loosens the pores. It works best when applied with a shaving brush. Trust me, once you try a shaving soap, you will never look at foams and gels the same again. Good luck!

Lo-

I'm all about shave soaps. I haven't used any canned stuff in a long time.

Cella is my favorite. I'm also a big fan of RazoRock shave soaps. Mike's Natural soaps are very nice but he is out of stock often.
I brush is a must for these soaps. You can buy a cheap brush at Wally World for about $6. I recommend a nicer brush. You can buy a nice brush for around $20.

You can find Cella and the RazoRock soaps at www.italianbarber.com. They also have a large choice of brushes. They are in Canada but don't worry about that. Their service is excellent. They have outstanding products at very fair prices. I usually get my orders in about 4-5 days.

Shave soap is definitely the way to go. There's a bit of a learning curve with making a nice lather, but it's so infinitely better for your skin than anything in a can or with aerosol.
As for brushes, I recommend starting with a badger brush. With shave brushes you're going to need a stand to hang it upside down so it can drip dry.

Crap in a can isn't a patch on a real shaving soap, as above, buy a brush, you do not need to spend £50, my cheap one lathers exactly the same as the £50 one my brother in law gave me!
