Hello guys, I recently decided to start shaving my head around 2 days ago. This is my third day on going clean shaven. I was sick of trying to cut my hair and make it grow and look nice. My hair was thick and when it grew out was very hard to maintain. On-top of having a receding hair line, it made management very hard to deal with. I have been doing okay for being 3 days in. I picked up the ATX HeadBlade, and the HeadSlick, I also use a product aftershave: http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=20000316&cp=12586965.12587141.4191892, and then an aloe vera lotion.

I used to suffer with dandruff and some other scalp condition. When first shaving I noticed remnants of that scalp condition and redness. That has since gone away, as I have been trying to take care of my scalp with aloe and jojoba/shea butter/vitamin e lotion. My current situation is that although shaving EVERY morning, roughage still occurs. I shave at around 3-4am and it feels rough before 1pm. I don't know why this is, or if it is just cause my hair grows that fast, but its very irritating.

I like to have a smooth head, and since I am a chef as well, the appearance and the "lightness" is a breeze and welcomed for the hot conditions I work in.

Here are a couple of pictures that I took of my head: https://sphotos-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/998937_10201915922846783_579807617_n.jpg , https://sphotos-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/999435_10201915922286769_328718032_n.jpg ,

Any advice or criticisms would be appreciated! Also, I am finding that the ATX headblade isn't doing a very good close shave. Should I switch to HB3?

Hey, looks good newbie.  I've been using the Schick Hydro 5 for a few years now and It works great.  Everyone is different though. I used the Headblade and cut myself pretty bad so I'm waiting to try it again.  There are people on here with great success using the HB.

Hi Gaze:  Welcome to the sly fraternity.  Glad that ya joined us.  You look like a natural.  Sly suits ya.   I have tried and wanted to like the headblade but it didn't like me.  However... there are many fans of the HB here on SBGs.

I started head shaving about 6 years ago and was a fan of the Gillette Fusion and Hydro5 but since April 2012, I have been have some incredible face and dome shaves with DE and SE razors.

Keep us posted on your road to slyness,

Thank you, I am tending to get razor burn in the back though. I guess the only thing I can do is temper my head to it, and keep lathering it and trying to keep it healthy with lotion. I just hope Aloe Vera based lotions are good for my scalp.

Welcome Gaze!

I also have tried the HeadBlade in earnest (thanks again, Warhawk) but it just did not give me as smooth a shave as the Fusion.

Sounds like you have a case of "five o'clock shadow" on your head. I get it too. I shave at 6:00 a.m., and by 3:00, the smooth has turned to sand paper. I end up shaving twice a day sometimes. There is a product that comes in a little bottle called Shave Secret (you can find it at Walmart and it's cheap) that does a really good job of getting a closer shave for me.

The red spots will go away soon as your scalp becomes accustomed to being shaved. Give it a few weeks.

Glad you are here, sir. Sly suits you.

Welcome Gaze to the forum!

You look great in the sly look, it's very suiting to you.

I just started using the ATX myself, with headslick. I went back last night to my Fusion Power and soap/brush (it's AWESOME to lather with a brush!) - part of the issue might be is if the hairs don't stick up, the razor may not cut enough off. Also, make sure you use nice hot water to open the pores up and get super-smooth.

I did mine last night around 10pm and almost 12 hours later, only a slight hint of roughness where it grows the fastest. I think I get about the same with the ATX. One thing that's difficult (at least for me) is around the ears. It's hard to maneuver that little race car around those lobes... :)

Hope to see you around and post often, there's lots of great support and advice to be found here!

Welcome to sly and the forum.  I also use the Headblade ATX with HB4 blades and there always appears to be scuttle.  I can go over and over the same spot and still have trouble getting the hair cut.  I thought about trying a different set of blades such as HB6.  I love the Headblade itself but I think the blades may be part of my problem.  Would anyone else have any thoughts/suggestions.

Nice to have you on board.

Welcome to the party, gaze!

Like others, I tried the headblade ATX for a while, and found that it doesn't shave nearly as close as some other razors I've tried. Others absolutely love it. Different strokes, n' all that.
These days, I'm kickin' it old school with Gillette Sensor 3 razors. To me, they are like a better version of Mach 3 razors. The Sensors shave nice and close, but don't nick me. I use Avalon Organics shave cream, which also doubles as a light moisturizer.  I did use Hydro 3 razors for a while, but I feel that they sacrifice too much closeness for a 'safer' shave (you'd have to try pretty hard to get nicked by a Hydro blade).
The key really is to try various razors and shaving creams/gels/soaps until you find a combination that fits you. Don't be afraid to experiment. Enjoy the process!

Btw, you look great, brother.  O0

Try Sensor 3 cartridges (you have to use the sensor adapters). As I mentioned above, I use the actual Sensor 3 razors and love them.
