Bald in america
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:52:26 PM »
I have been living the bald lifestyle between 10-15 years now, I have gotten a lot of compliments but yet, a lot of negativity as well, usually the negative compliments come from gentlemen that are losing there hair naturally, they don't understand why I would want to shave it all off. I could respond to there negativity with harsh words, but yet, I always try to take in respect the fact that it really bothers them that they are losing there hair and when they see me it hits close to home that eventually they are going to loose the rest of there hair, so I just smile and say its a choice and a lifestyle. We as bald men have to remember that the sly style is not a lifestyle for everyone and some people embrace it right away, some take a while, and some fight every second of it. Our community has to be more understanding and helpfull to the gentleman that are fighting it the whole way because after being sly for so long we forget that being or going bald is not always an easy transition.

You are very correct.  Many men take a long time to embrace the shaved look.  We often get guys that have lurked for years before they decided to finally shave their head.  I wish there was a magic mirror that would show them how much better they will feel after shaving, but we at SBG have to act like that magic mirror.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I guess it's largely down to insecurity on their part, I often see guys with hairloss and mpb having a good look....

Read my newbie post---walk around with a jarhead essentially----since I was in West Point now 52 yo---never guessed when I walked into WP Barbers in 1978 would never have hair again.  So why can't I shave it---starting to lose it on the sides of the top so don't look like a jar head anymore----and what I can grow is only gray and white.  Help!

Hey nyc3712, I (and others) have responded to your intro post. Welcome to SBG.

As to gray or white -- don't worry about it. Guys like us have earned every single one of them!  8)

This site has been a BIG help to me when I decided to go sly by choice.  The encouragements, the cool posts, and all the other benefits have been a help to me.  Our culture is so "youth oriented" we've been made to believe that one looks "old" when he's bald; and is coerced into the "rugs, plugs and drugs" route.  Let's keep promoting this site so that other cats who are either MPB or want to go BBC can get that same encouragement and support.  And let them know that being bald has nothing to do with age since we have a lot of young cats who are sly.

I happen to be bald by choice. I do agree with you about our culture. This site has been a blessing for me. A couple of months ago a couple teenagers called me a skinhead in Boulder Colorado. In Boulder Colorado anything hippie is cool and in style. I usually have to go to Boulder for business a couple times a week. I'd rather by bald a million times over being an unabated uncut hippie.

Yes, "youth oriented..." and more frightening is that they're increasingly the target market for retailers who have discovered they don't care about money management, are involved with immediate gratification and will do whatever to get what they want. I suppose, if it became "cool" or "hip" or whatever to be bald, then there would be a rush on razors. Of course the only way that works out is if they can get all their hair back as soon as that fad passes. Of course, eventually they'll realize that being bald is a gift nature gives you. Has been for years. The reason people wore wigs was to cover shaved heads occasioned by head lice.

Well said guys. I have MPB and shaving my head was the best thing I ever did once this came about. I love this web site. It has given me so much support. I love the fellowship all of us have. I love being sly and intend to stay sly.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
