In addition to this forum, am I also a frequent user of another forum that focuses on facial hair:  http://p075.ezboard.com/bjefffsbeardboard

A great place to learn about trimming/styling/etc.

As for using product, I'm not a fan of having any product on my beard.  I never grow mine past an inch or so and just trim the stashe area at the bottom.  As of now I am clean shaven, but I do have a beard or goatee fairly often.

There are companies that make mustashe wax, but in my opinion this is only helpful if you grow a huge mustache that would normally cover your mouth and such.  Even if you grew a two inch goatee and kept the lip line trimmed I don't think you would need any products like that.

Razor X:
How often do you guys trim your goatees, and do you do it yourselves or have someone else do it for you?  I get mine trimmed once a week.  If I let it go any longer than that, it starts to get a bit scraggly and itchy.   The rechargeable battery on my beard trimmer died a while back and I haven't replaced it because there is a barber around the corner from my office who trims it for $5.  I'm always afraid of messing it up if I do it myself.

warhawk:
i trim the goat myself about once or twice a week while using scissors.

I usually just leave it alone, but if I start seeing a bunch of hairs out of place then it becomes time to trim.
