Sly has taken over
« on: June 08, 2007, 09:47:35 PM »
It used to be that completely shaved heads were the exception rather than the rule.  Fortunately, this all started to change in the past 10 years or so, to the point where the sly look is very mainstream, and is in fact, pretty much the default haircut for those with MPB.  An example of the reversal in my thinking as a result of this welcome trend:

This past week I ran into a former colleague of mine.  Hadn't seen him in about a year.  He is a couple of years younger than me and has been completely MPB ever since I've known him.  I still had most of my hair when we first started working together.  When I saw him the other day, he looked the same as he always has -- MPB fringe buzzed to about a #1 (which makes him look older than he really is).  My first thought upon seeing him was, "Why hasn't he shaved off that fringe yet?"

A few years ago, seeing an MPB guy with a shaved head was still somewhat a novelty.  Now seeing an MPB guy who doesn't shave his head seems unusual.  The tables have turned and the question is no longer, "Why did you shave your head?" but "Why haven't you shaved your head?"

I hear ya guys.  I'm always thinking that same thing to myself, "Why haven't they shaved their head yet?"
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Nice observation...

I think it totally drives me nuts when it's on a younger dude (ususally has a small island in the front)....doesn't happen much...but it does pop up every now and then...

Same here.  I just want to go up and tell them about this site.  But hey, they'll learn in due time.

I love the "sly", but I will be honest, I wish sometimes that it wasn't as mainstream...its like when you were a kid and were the only one on the block with a new bike...aaaaahhhhhh the admiration ;D

But then again, would have never had the opportunity to be on this site and meet some cool bald band of brothas  O:O

OK DUDES....you "one's  on the fence" listen to what YOSP just said....he wishes it wan't mainstream!!!

He was a Hairclub guy not too long ago...pretty awesome how just shaving your head clean can really improve and change your life! O0 O0

My sentiments exactly though, it's a double edged sword...you dig seeing other bald sly dudes like yourself, but then it's cool to be a stand out in the crowd...

I can deal with it though 8)

There a couple of guys in my neighborhood that have the island things going on.  Drives me nuts, too.  I think they are probably younger than I am.  They don't realize how that hairloss pattern is ruining their appearance.  They should just let go instead of trying to hang onto what remains.

Ironically, though, these same guys are probably driven nuts by guys like you who shave full heads of hair!  ;D

This is where leading by example comes in.  Keep that dome smooth and shiny at all times.  There is no telling who might be inspired by your look, to become the next Sly Bald Guy.

I didn't shave on Saturday morning this week.  I waited until early evening, just before I went out.  I felt totally subhuman until my dome was free of all the stubble.  Wasn't enough there that anyone else would actually notice, unless they touched it, but enough to take away that killer shine.
